Jayco Jay Smart European Style
Looking forward to seeing this new model introduced. It will be introduced in Texas in June. going to be produced at the Indiana plant.... interesting and different from anything I've seen from other manufactures in the states....

It's about time!
It will be interesting to actually see the trailer here on US soil. I have looked at a lot of European TT and class B/B+ units and have always wondered why American manufacturers seem so hide-bound in making "me-too" Grandma's cottage or cheesy big-box restaurant style units for the US market.

That may be. While Jayco makes a pretty good quality trailer, just because the European look is all the rage doesn't mean that they are any better. Everyone raved about Ikea and for the most part, their stuff looks great but isn't any better than Sauder Woodworking. I just hope that if the "look" catches on here that the poor quality doesn't follow with it. In fact European units are far lighter than their US counterparts. Why is that? Are they sacrificing something?

I think they are sacrificing wood in general, particle board, wafer board, overweight chassis', overweight suspensions and metal framed furniture. I don't think I would miss any of that...
The Sauder Vs Ikea comparison is interesting and may be, as a comparison, spot on. If so, it's a matter of taste and perceived quality and I tend to lean toward Ikea...YMMV

I asked my salesman about them before I ordered my unit. last month. He said he didn't have very much information yet, but thought they would be quite expensive.

I was thinking about that too. I think the idea was to decrease tongue weight so that more vehicles would be able to tow it. But then without any tongue weight, wouldn't you get more sway? At least with the axles so close together? I mean maybe if the axles were much further apart, you could get away with very little tongue weight, kind of like a tandem-towed tractor trailer... But then, doesn't the front axle pivot on one of those tandem jobs?
I'll be very interested to see how this goes, and will be looking for them at the next RV show...

sauder sucks, its such a pain to put together, just put together an entire ikea kitchen and it was so easy to do
sauder causes divorces

I know a number of European trailer owners. None of their tow vehicles are trucks, they are normally passenger vehicles, with limited tow capacity. Therefore, a sophisticated light trailer industry has developed. There's probably a lot to be learned from their ideas and techniques. We should take full advantage, and will, as soon as we realize that lighter does not mean flimsy, or structurally deficient.

I am in the market for a new travel trailer so joined this forum to learn more about this new TT. I have several questions that I know we can only all speculate about but here they are for the "Carnacks" (did I just date myself?) among us.
1. The trailer looks very low to the ground. How will we hook it up to our hitches if it is at least a foot or more lower that what most TTs are built at? What kind of hitch will we need I guess is the better question.
2. Will it have electric brakes?
3. Will solar be an option?

Welcome to the forum!
1. A drop hitch extension...widely available today. 4x4 owners need them frequently as their vehicles sit much higher than most.
2. Yes. Most anything larger than a popup has electric brakes.
3. With the expansion of the Green Agenda most likely yes. And probably a composting toilet for you earth worshippers.
