No AC no Lights

Jayco 32bhds. Started having a problem ... plugged into shore power and have no ac and no lights, traced the problem back to the inverter, make sense now since my battery doesn't charge when plugged into shore power, only charges when towing or when on a battery tender. Anyhow, does anyone know what type the model or replacement part is for the inverter behind electrical pannel? I really don't want to replace the entire panel, since just the inverter is bad.

Any advice is appreciated

What you are referring to as a Inverter is the Converter. The convertor is what charges your batteries when on shore power and provides 12dc for lights etc.

Before talking replacing anything I would first do some troubleshooting with a good digital VOM. Look for blown fuses and continuity of wiring.

BTW are you still in warranty?

BTW, welcome to JOF.

Just went through this on mine. There is a wire nut that was loose on mine. Check wiring carefully.

Sounds like you're not using an EMS. It would detect faults in the circuits. Higher voltage pedestals can damage a converter. If the converter is blown you will see signs of scorching or white flaky acid accumulation on the housing. Check the breakers and fuses.

Need to post the model number of the converter. Then folks can point out where to look for fuses etc... You should have a 120VAC circuit breaker just for the converter chassis and on the DC side of the converter you should find two fuse called REVERSE POLARITY fuses and there should be another in-line fuse or maybe on the newer trailers a circuit breaker just before the battery terminals...

Sometimes the battery will develop a shorted cell due to boiling out of fluids just sitting there over time with 13.6VDC on its terminals and when the converter attempted to charge it blows all those fused connections mentioned above. A good Battery maintenance plan keeps this from happening...

Need more info on here to track down the problem. May not be a failed converter just tripped breakers, blown fuses, bad connections or shorted out battery...

Sorry, you are all correct, it is the converter. We went through testing all the fuses and breakers. The breakers have 120 running to all of them, but when you get to the fuses, nothing.

So we pulled the breaker panel and looked inside the converter, there are some blown diodes inside the converter. They could probably be resoldered but it's a tight spot so I am just hoping to replace the whole thing.

We do have always used a GFI at the 30amp panel but the battery boiling makes sense as the last battery was doing that, I think this is something that has been happening for a while (as I just recently got a new battery and battery tender).

If you have opened your converter and found blown/burned diodes, I highly recommend replacing the converter. There should be a manufacturer and model number tag/sticker on it somewhere.
On the down side, it sounds like you are having to replace the replace the converter, but on the up side, once you know the make and model and specs of your current blown converter, you are sitting with a nice option of getting a much better upgraded new converter.
