Replaced Thermostat and Mattress- Not Impressed

So I put in the new memory foam mattress and thermostat today. Took the old thermostat off this is what I found behind it. Wow! Looks like they just punched a quick hole in the wall. The new digital thermostat works great though.

Look like they cut the hole with a hatchet!

Norty1 - that's exactly what it looks like. Seems like a small hole saw would have been easier and cleaner.

It was a Coleman 8330-3862. Ordered from Amazon and the screw holes and wiring were all a perfect match.

Please share information on the memory foam mattress, I predict that our new mattress will get tossed following our first trip in May.

The memory foam mattress was from Amazon. It was Lucid 10 inch gel memory foam rv short queen matress. I will be honest, I had a tough time picking one. I went with this one because it was a little lighter (I am pushing the towing capabilities of my Jeep Grand Cherokee) and it was very highly rated. We went out three times with the stock simons mattress and it was just too hard for my DW. It is in its 24 hour expansion mode now. It seems to be very nice so far although the true test will be in April when we actually sleep on it.

Just like a house what ever is covered by trim or something it never looks pretty. Ever look in the attic or in the crawl space of a new house? You find pieces of wood and left over supplies. No need to be pretty if it's covered up. I have opened up pretty much every panel in my trailer and I found pieces of wood scraps and the wiring is a mess. Crappy job on the ducting as well but it works and blows heat.

I have the same chopped open hole behind the thermostat. It is not easy to cut those panels.

Completely understand that and that wall panel material looks pretty tough. It just seems like it would be easier to run a hole saw through it. I am not even sure how they made that opening!

Thanks for the information, I look forward to hearing how comfortable it is when you head out in April. Our first trip is Memorial Day weekend, I sincerely doubt our mattress will be tolerated, it is hard as a rock.
