Slide toppers

I was wanting to know if the slide toppers are worth the money. Has anyone had them installed after not having them. Did you notice a difference in having shade over the slide or are they just to keep the top of slide cleaner?

They do keep the slide cooler, but cleaner is the key. I've had them on the last 4 units.

I still havn't decided if they are worth it. My brother in law's flap so much in the wind that at times they have to run the slides in to sleep. I would like to have them when parked on our river lot because of sticks and leaves etc falling out of the trees.

I had a slide topper installed. I got tired of cleaning sticks and leaves off the top of the slide.

Get them! Help keep slide tops clean and cool and they have to save on water leaks. I will never own an RV without them.

What brand does he have?

We have A&E slide topper on our big slide and have never had a problem with wind. We camped this weekend with 30+ mph gusts and 25 mph steady winds and had no issues.

We have slide toppers from Carefree of Colorado. No complaints. Definitely worth the money. We haven't had any problems with wind and they drain well in the rain. Good investment.

I've never had them so I cant really speak from that perspective, but I guess thats because in my mind I never could really justify the expense. I've really wanted them, but the cost always seemed high just to save the work of sending my 14 year old son onto the roof armed with a broom before running the slides in. I am getting them quoted on my new TT, but I am expecting it to run about 750-1,000 and if that's the case I will go without again. Just my .02.

Another big benefit of the slide awnings in the summer is decreased heat in the slideout. The awning shades the slide roof and really keeps things cooler inside.

Topper might be cheaper than a broken arm from a fall.

I agree with always wanting them, but not being able to justify the expense. I may ask about them the next time I'm at the dealer just so that I can get sticker shock and stop wanting them for a while!

what is a fair price for slide toppers? Been checking around for some for my 07 314 bhds and have found them fromm 650.00 to 1500.00 delivered but not installed. The best price was on ebay for two toppers and mounting bracketts made by a&e those where 650.00 what you think is that a good deal?

When I was last looking, I had a dealer quote me a price of $350.00 installed with the deal. I passed on it cause the trailer was a POC.

I bought my topper extra and put it on myself. I've not had any issues with flapping in the wind, but man was it great when I brought in the slide before going camping and just watched through the window all the junk from oak trees that had just started putting on leaves roll off the top of the slide and I didn't have to do a thing to clean it prior to bringing it in. I'll never have another slide without a topper.

I held off buying one because relatives were driven crazy by the wind. They swore they would never have them again. I've heard people using beach balls to control it but how is it that many people have them here but not bothered by the wind. I just bought a cheap leaf blower to aid in cleaning off the roof and awning.

I don't know what brand and model slide awning covers your relatives have.

My 2003 trailer has A&E slide awning covers. We have camped in every imaginable condition and situation. Mine does not make noise that dives me crazy in the wind.

I will install slide awning covers on my future RV's with slides.

I'm having 3 slide toppers installed on Wednesday. Our friends son has a business in San Diego Ca. All he does is install rv awnings & slide toppers. The price was way cheaper than the dealer. It gives us an excuse to spend a week at Santee Lakes in San Diego in our trailer.
