tv not getting any signal

I hooked up a brand new LED hdtv today and tried to auto program the channels that are available with the antennae. The tv is not finding any channels and the people around me are getting 25 or so channels. The antennae was up and I tried rotating it while it was searching. The power boost was on. This is a brand new tt and tv. Could it possibly be a bad coaxial cable I am using? I removed the wall plate to be sure everything was hooked up and it was. Any other ideas? I also chose antennae when it wanted to know what I was hooked to. Thanks.

Go outside and see what direction most people have their antenna's pointed, then point yours that way. Next be sure you have your tv set to "over the air" channels rather than CATV. I think with most tv's I have set up come set to CATV by default and you have to select "Over the Air". I have made that mistake before on more than one occasion.

If by chance you still think it's a wire issue, you could string cable up directly to the antenna bypassing installed cable and verify that way. However, I think you will also be bypassing the amplifier. That said, if people are picking up 25 or so channels than that would indicate a relatively close proximity to some stations which would mean you should probably be able to pick them up without the amplifier.

I live in a pretty rural area and I am able to pick up channels over 30 miles away without the amplifier on.

Sorry, I just noticed you said you chose antenna.......Pick a direction of a tv station and leave it in one position. It could take up to 5 minutes to find channels.

Hope this helps!

Jimmy

It could be a bad cable. Do you have an old school set of rabbit ears that you can use as a test? I am able to pick up several HD channels OTA (Over The Air) with a set. If you then get a good signal, then there is some issue with the cabling or the booster to the roof antenna, which you whould have to eliminate one at a time with a test cable long enough to bypass and route around.

If it is a bad cable, simple test would be to run a cable loose from the tv and out the window to the roof antenna. Re-program tv and test if thats a bad cable you will now know that you have to replace inside the walls.

Make sure you have the amplifier button pushed to "ON", a light will come on (located on the cable connection plate). Turn the amplifier button to "OFF" only when using a cable source coming into the TT.

I had a TV once that had the option to set Analog, Digital, or Both. You might look around your settings and make sure you are good for Digital.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am hoping the small piece of coax I used from tv to outlet is bad. Guess I will have to play around with it.
