Go outside and see what direction most people have their antenna's pointed, then point yours that way. Next be sure you have your tv set to "over the air" channels rather than CATV. I think with most tv's I have set up come set to CATV by default and you have to select "Over the Air". I have made that mistake before on more than one occasion.
If by chance you still think it's a wire issue, you could string cable up directly to the antenna bypassing installed cable and verify that way. However, I think you will also be bypassing the amplifier. That said, if people are picking up 25 or so channels than that would indicate a relatively close proximity to some stations which would mean you should probably be able to pick them up without the amplifier.
I live in a pretty rural area and I am able to pick up channels over 30 miles away without the amplifier on.
Sorry, I just noticed you said you chose antenna.......Pick a direction of a tv station and leave it in one position. It could take up to 5 minutes to find channels.
Hope this helps!
