Well I'm new here myself and just going through all the forums but maybe I can make a suggestion. It seems from my reading that most owners are caulking cracks and seams. If your crack is only 1", I would think that would be the way to go on yours. I don't think you need to do a whole fiberglass repair, but maybe more experienced users might disagree. Anyway, my suggestion would be to use a specific marine caulk by 3M called 5200. That caulk is actually rated for use below the waterline on boats and is really amazing stuff. Back when I used to rebuild old wood boats (ChrisCrafts) we used it and I can tell you that wood will break before the bond will. It's not cheap, something like $20 for a full sized caulk tube, but I think it also comes in smaller tubes as well. Do not get it on your clothes, it will not come out and will not wash out....ever (don't ask how I know this....) Anyway, that's my idea.
