Pinnacle's First Long Trip Update

Just returned from a 24 day, 10 states, 4000 mile trip to the Smoky Mts and Gulf Coast. Our new 31rlts performed flawlessly. We did have 1 minor incident on our initial shake-down trip to a local state park.

The desk drawer slid out of the drawer guides and was lying on the floor when we arrived back at home from the shake-down. No damage was done to either the drawer or the guides. I don't know if we had pushed it back in securely or not to cause it to come completely out when towing. However, in three days we were set to leave on our SE states trip, so I removed the desk top as couldn't get it to the dealer for a fix or guides adjustment (which Jayco recommended when I emailed them). The desktop lid is a complete, solid piece of wood and is very heavy. We did not need a desk top as could use the dinette table.

So, I do give a thumbs-up on our Pinnacle. The slides worked as you'd expect, the Utility Center is fantastic, and the DW likes the kitchen layout. We even like the firmness of the Cloud 10 mattress. And for the 2 of us, the 31 is perfectly sized.

And, it is very towable. I was surprised to find that our MPGs are not much lower from our former 28.5 Eagle SuperLite 5W. And, we are towing about 2 more tons than before. On our trip I averaged about 11.3 MPG with a high of 11.9 and a low of 8.8 going into a 25 MPH head wind and up and down the hills of eastern Oklahoma and Kansas. I tow going about 62 MPH which seems to be the Duramax's sweet spot for towing as the tranny is locked in 6th gear and in a favorable torque range at about 1600 RPMs.

All in all, I'm a very happy camper, er...RVer!

Very nice!

We are looking at the Pinnacle 31RLTS due to its more manageable size in Texas state parks than the 36KPTS.

Thanks for sharing.

According to Jayco.com, the 31RLTS has an exterior length of 34' 5" and a GVWR of 14,950 lbs. up to the 36LKTS length of 40' 4" and 15,950 lbs. Check them out at Jayco Pinnacle Floorplans.

As for retirement...I highly recommend it!

I also recommend retirement but I will be keeping the 321RLTS.
