Toilet Cleaning
How do you clean the toilet from the flapper down? There is a void under this toilet flapper covered in material. Seems like a sh.... design to me. You cant see the whole area but I assume it all must be in the same condition. I tried to blast it with a hose and attachment but it didnt do much of a job. Our old camper had a straight drop into the black water tank. It made cleaning fairly easy. You relied on the treatment pacs to deal with the odor. In this case the material is not covered by the treatment. Can anyone suggest a better way of cleaning this area? Thanks

I just try not to look down there and I don't know an easy way to clean it. As long as the seat sparkles that's good enough for me.
How about you SC Dave?

You bring up a good question because it seems that no matter how much you rinse the tank or how many "Tablets" you put down in the tank, if this area is not clean, there is a smell that comes up when holding the flapper open for any length of time. We use one of those wand type spray gadgets that attaches to a garden hose along with a long handled brush. Just to make sure we don't drop the brush down into the tank I have a string through the handle of the brush and then loop it around my neck (well actually around my DW's neck cuz she's the designated "cleaner person").

I bought a utility brush, kind of like a regular toilet brush but round with no bend. I tried scrubbing the stuff off from below the flapper and couldn't get much of it off. Sticks pretty tight.
I don't look too closely any more if I can help it. I guess it's not hurting anything, other than my sense of pride when I have guests over.

No public facilities at the RV park I'm at now, unfortunately. Not even any big trees or bushes outside. LOL

I just pour the blue stuff in there and clean the seat and bowl with windex. Only time a smell comes out is the first 2-3 flushes with the blue stuff. Then its all good. Even when its full. I have never needed to wand mine or anything. Man what are you guys putting in there?!?! Wait don't answer that!

I heard a tip of putting ice in the black tank before going for a drive to knock umm 'material' off the sides of the tank. Then of course the ice melts. Seems like it might be worth a try?

Use cascade liquid soap with some ice. Then drive around or to your destination and it will help clean up the tank and sensors. Just remember to dump prior to setting up.

He's talking about the void under the flapper that funnels down to the holding tank. I think a long curved toilet brush should work.
