Refrigerator running
Most of our trips are within 200 miles or so from home , but every year we drive the 1200 miles to Walt Disney World , this is our first year with our new travel trailer , our old pop up refrigerator was not capable of running on propane so I never had to think about it , and with most of our trips being a tank full of gas or less I never need to fill up with the trailer hooked up , I fill up before we leave and before we come home trailer less . So my question being do you shut the gas off in the refrigerator , (open flame ) while you fill up your tow vehicle ? I think by law you may need to shut it off , what does everyone else do ?

Yes shut off the fridge when fueling up, if you can remember.

I shut the fridge right off when on the road. It'll stay cold for a good long while so long as you don't open it up. It gets fired-up as soon as we're parked. Solves the problem of remembering to shut it off when refuelling and your flame will never 'blow' out while driving!

I keep mine running--thing is the open flame is like 10 feet away from the pump.

I leave it on continously. Bought this unit in 2007, towed it over 20,000 miles and no issues. Over 100,000 miles towing other brands other units, never had an issue or heard of anyone having an issue leaving refrig on.
If parking unit in relatively unlevel place, more than 2-3 degrees out, turn it off. When ready to hit the road, turn it back on and don't tarry.

You should have three options on your fridge. 120v, propane, and 12v. You can hook up the trailer wiring so that the fridge gets 12v from the car when hooked up. This way it cools slightly while you drive. Of course it is not highly efficient but it works and then the flame part is solved. That is what I do with mine.

Our prior TT had a three way power choice. 120Vac 12Vdc, or LP.
We ran the Fridge on 12V when towing while our TV was recharging the battery. When stopped to eat or fuel the battery did fine.

The three ways are really only found on smaller units and pop-ups. Our pop-up had a lil three way.

Our old 17' Casita had three way. We had to remember to switch the 12v back to gas when we parked the tv/tt for any length of time (shopping/boodocking on the road/etc). But for the most part, we never forgot.

some states have the law that the propane must be off while traveling.. and common sense says to turn it off at the filling station..
barrelslime:::: please DON'T fill up near me!

Well I returned home last week from a 2300 mile trip and I left it on the while fueling , I tried to make sure the trailer was not near another pump .

Hello
we have had a couple tent trailers with the 3 way fridge , truck camper had 12 volt or lp only - different
having a 3 way fridge is great
We have run the fridge on both LP and 12 volt while traveling with no issues
the safest way is to run the fridge on 12 volt battery power while traveling , the 12 volt will not work as well as on LP(while camping), since your not in and out of the fridge while towing it will be fine to keep everything nice and cool.
We had our Jayco 8U tent trailer for 4 years and ran it on LP almost all the time with no issues , just be carefull at the fuel pumps.
The 12 volt option works just as well to keep the fridge cool going down the road.
the lp option will cool the fridge faster when you first turn the fridge on or if you go in and out of the fridge often.
I almost forgot to say the 12 volt on the fridge does take a far amount (2-3 amps )of power so if you happen to be parked for more than 2-3 hrs(depending on your batteries ) some where with out the vehicle running charging the battery switch to propane if you can
the fridge can kill a battery overnight , so be carefull
12 volt is safer , but many people have used LP and left it turned on with no issues
It is up to you and how comfortable you feel
Happy Camping

With just the fridge on it will last over a month probably 2 or 3.. it really uses very little...
