Just got back from 2 weeks of boondocking in a
local beach campground here in Rhode Island without having to run the generator the entire time!
We're a family of 5, all with power needs. I have 200W of solar I installed on the roof a few years back, that keeps my (1) AGM house battery charged as well as everyone's devices via the numerous USB outlets I added throughout the rig. I supplement the rooftop solar with a 100W suitcase unit to keep my
Portable Power Station charged (runs the beer fridge
) as well as the daily charging of my Ryobi batteries for the fans we use at night.
This campground (basically a parking lot, no hookups) packs the rigs in so tight that your awning ends where the next rig begins. I have a hard time firing up my obnoxious Onan in such close quarters. Even the Honda's and other similar units are equally annoying in considering the space we're in.
If you've ever even thought about boondocking, no matter where, but are apprehensive, go ahead and give it a go! You too can do it!
