What do you double tow and what are your states limits--

I thought this might be a fun & informative thing to do. But who else double tows another trailer behind your 5th wheel (Recreational Double in Michigan) and what are your states length limits.

We have a 17' Mirrocraft ski & fish boat we pull behind out HT 29.5 FBDS. In Michigan, the length max is 75' from the front bumper of the truck to the (in our case) prop on the motor. Our rig length measures at 72' 6". Also for MI drivers, you have to get a Recreational Double endorsement on your drivers license. Very easy to do, no road test, just a study pamphlet and multiple guess test.

We can't double tow in CA but just curious......how do you back up? I'm gonna guess that you don't attempt to back up, you just disconnect if you have to.

This is our set up. South Dakota limit is 75' and backing up is interesting and avoided as much as possible!

Washington state is no for residents, Oregon is no and California is ok if you have a CDL with an endorsement. We towed a Montana and an ATV trailer with a 65 ft total. We were in the coastal states and were never stopped.

I don't double tow and I don't know what the law is in GA (that article linked is 10 years old), but I see it done lots of times here in southeastern GA. We live a couple miles off I-95 and see folks coming off of and going onto I-95 double towing frequently with both GA and FL tags. Usually it's a 5th wheel with a golf cart on a trailer, sometimes it is a boat. Every once in a while I'll see a TT double towing.

Generally, I don't. One day in front of the house, just for fun, I tried to see how far I could get it. I backed up maybe 60' to 70' until it all started getting goofy on me. But that was under ideal conditions. Problem is, the boat trailer in back, turns faster than I can get the 5th wheel to react to counter it. Generally anything more than 20' to 30' is out of the question. So I consider it normally a last resort & try to avoid it at all times.

FWIW, I have a back up camera on the rear of the RV that I can monitor the boat trailer with.
