Wi fi

As a permanent resident, we have free wi fi. It’s awful. I know people that have set their own up. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't mention where you are located. I have a simple T-Mobile device that uses the cell phone signal and turns it into wifi to use in my home. Cost is $50 per month and no other charges or taxes. But it may not work in your neighborhood. Call T-Mobile to see if it would. Only other choice is to get a booster antenna for the "free" wifi but that may not help if the office has a limited connection and poor equipment. Ask around with others there what they do would be a good first step.

This is another of those questions that is asked about every other week. As I recall there was just a rather long thread on what to do to get better wifi so try the search feature in the gold bar at the top of the page and I think you will find scads of threads about it.

This may be a dumb question but do you have to use T-Mobile phone service assuming you do? We currently have Verizon and have checked into something and there’s nothing available. We have neighbors that use the Internet for work and search but man it’s expensive

The T-mobile wifi is a self contained cell phone unit that emits wifi on 2.5 or 5 bands. I get about 250 feet of coverage. it runs on AC.
It is separately billed and you don't have to have a T Mobile phone service. Flat $50 a month. T mobile also has a "hotspot" that runs off cell phones at a higher price that is mobile. Supposedly the kind I use is only supposed to be used at one place.

Saw a prior very long post where someone was using it on the road and was not being questioned by Tmobile for that use.

I can refer you and I get a bonus, not sure if it saves you anything.

In my experience every CG has “free WiFi” but the ones that are useful are rare. Kinda like unicorns, yeah they’re real but I’ve never seen one. For an RV,er a cell hot spot is probably the best choice or maybe find a CG next to a Starbucks.

Very true. Many campgrounds have wifi that is usable during dawn hours. Worse during the day, and pathetic in the evening when it seems most are streaming movies.

Your own hotspot, if it works, is the best bet. Secure it with a password.

You have Verizon Cell signal where you're camping? If so, I have a Verizon Hotspot device called a MiFi.

You've got three choices when it comes to getting Internet: public WiFi, cellular and satellite.

If there was a Starbucks or McDonalds or other free wifi access point nearby - that's one option.

Cellular is what I described: a hotspot.

Satellite is something like Starlink

We do a lot of boon-docking and tried to rely on Verizon Wireless for our 'on the go Internet'. It was a big fail. It seems if you can't connect to 3G or better, you can't stream and you get extremely slow connection speeds. Most of the time, we rarely even had signal. We finally bit the bullet and got the Elon Musk Starlink and never looked back.. It doesn't mater where we camp, we've always gotten 300MB or better connection speeds. We are on our 8th month of service with Starlink and been happy campers with them since. The equipment is so easy to transport and set up, we use if soley for our internet, home and on the road.

They are relaxing the restrictions. It's still not perfect - if you move into a cell that's full. But it's getting better

I have never ran into a problem relocating my position roaming in Calif, Nevada Oregon etc.. They provide an app that makes the process simple and quick.

In my situation, i am retired but my wife works under contract via tele-commute. So we need the internet connections... What better way to enjoy what is best in life and and what is a necessity in life??? We spend a great about of time on the road and the internet connections is part of our life.
