Dang, Norty! The Bell System was broken up in 1983! I had a bumper sticker in the late 70s that had a picture of the Bell System:

Under the logo was "We Don't Care, We Don't Have To!"

The break up had a lot of mixed feelings for myself. For whatever reason, S.W.M.B.O. likes keeping a landline. Sadly, it kept going out of order over the last year or two. The current phone company here is a remnant of many mergers, acquisitions, etc and they have done zero maintenance of old equipment and for good reason. It's obsolete!

The same repairman, was sent several times. He covers two `counties here in the Seattle area. After the third service appointment cancellation, we moved out landline to our POS Cable provider. The same day, the Century Link repair guy showed up and said he could hook our landline to their newly installed fiber optic network.

I asked if there would be a reduction in my bill and he said no. I then informed him we had ported the landline number to Concast and that not only would we save the stupid amount of money we had been giving to Century Link but our Concast bill actually dropped $10 per month due to a package of services.

Sadly, your former employer, like mine, are dinosaurs. I worked for both Seattle newspapers for 34 years.

Re-reading this, after posting, yes! It is a pointless post!

Official Fire House Mascot...

The tradition of Dalmatians in firehouses dates back more than a century. Nowadays they mainly serve as mascots, but before fire trucks had engines, Dalmatians played a vital role every time firefighters raced to a blaze.

It all dates back to when people used horse-drawn carriages. But, at first, the dogs didn't have anything to do with fire fighters. People realized that Dalmatians would run alongside horses, keeping pace even when sprinting long distances. The dogs would even defend the horses from other dogs or animals that could spook or attack the horses during the ride.

Thanks for the history. I was aware, but just playing a bit of naive humor.

BTW, I'm so old that I remember when you opened a can of beer and the whole pull tab came off.

Used to link them into a "chain". Way before recycling was a thing here. My folks thought I was drinking a lot of Coke.

1st wife used to do that so she could accurately yell at me for how many beers I drank. My wife now doesn't do that because I switched to bourbon.

Why do elephants paint their toe nails different colors?

So they can hide in a bag of M&M's.

Have you ever found an elephant in a bag of M&M's?

They hide really well don't they!

This key says “ Lucky Lager— age dated beer” but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it hadn’t open a few oil cans also!

Reminds me of the story about Tony the Lion. Tony went up to the elephant one morning and yelled at him "Elephant! Who is King of the jungle?" and the elephant picked Tony up and threw him on the ground and stomped him a few times and then kicked him away and then Tony said "Elephant, You didn't have to get so upset just because you don't know the answer." ~CA

You bet. Stuck to a canned ham. You pulled a small tab of metal at the lid, threaded it through the "eye" of that key, and twisted it around the top of the can to open it. Turned many of those. I think coffee cans too.
