Convert 30A power cord to modular design?

One of the more frustrating evolutions for me is trying to cram the 30A power cord back into the hidden bin at the back of the RV. Is it possible to convert to a modular type connection where the cord plugs in at both ends?
This would entail cutting off the existing cord and leaving enough to connect the new 30A receptacle, then taking the remainder of the cord and fitting it with a new plug.
Pros? Cons? Has anyone seen a kit for doing this? Thanks!

Numerous threads and comments from JOF members doing just that, and here's the kit.
