Homemade Battery Box

I want to convert my battery to two 6V golf cart batteries. I want a case that will hold them end to end so I can mount it across my A frame in place of the original battery box.

The only one I can find is made of translucent white plastic and I question whether or not it is UV resistant. I also don't feel like spending $70 for it.

Has anyone ever had any luck making one out of pine boards or plywood? If properly painted will it stand up to the elements?

Thanks, Bob

Don't two battery boxes fit along side each other ?

This is a possibility. I just found a store nearby that stocks the boxes at a reasonable price (Batteries+Bulbs). I suppose I could mount them end to end on top of a treated 2x6. I had originally thought that buying two boxes for this size battery would be expensive.

Thanks for making me take another look at this.

Or two angle irons bolted to the frame, rather than wood up front.

Two single boxes would not fit on my 23RB. I ended up with the white translucent box. There were other double boxes but the batteries in side by side, so the foot print of the box would not fit in the original space.

What I found with the single boxes were the obscenely large outlets on the box top prevented two boxes to sit end to end.

If I had rerouted the electrical lines and the gas line, they may have fit.

My EAGLE came with 2 battery trays. Unfortunately, the top tray was for a size 24 battery box, but the lower frame was for a size 27 battery box. I cut off the ends of the upper tray and the size 27 box fit perfectly. Bolted it to the battery box tray and it has stayed for the last 6 years.

Don't panic, the below picture only shows the SOLAR Charge Controllers battery temperature sensor (was being installed here), the positive battery cable is not connected in this picture.

I purchased 4 battery boxes. Cut the lower half of 2 boxes and inserted them into the regular battery boxes. This extended the sides of the battery boxes to be taller to allow for the taller 6 volt batteries. Works great.

I had the same issue on my 2017 27BHS when I replaced the one group 24 battery with 2 GC-2 batteries.
I bought a translucent white battery box from I don't remember where (suffering from CRAFT - Can't Remember A Freaking Thing)
It just fit on the tray

Lowe’s has a small truck box that will hold 4-6v golf cart batteries, and have extra storage area for leveling blocks, etc. I drilled holes on the backside of mine, so that there would be ventilation for the battery gasses. Mounted directly to A-frame.

I have limited space on the A frame of my little trailer. They'll have to go end to end and if I put them where the current battery is, I'm afraid they'll hit bumper of the truck on a sharp turn. This means I'll have to move the propane tank (I have only one) to the tip of the tongue and put the batteries behind it. Nothing is easy!

I'll probably just build a custom box to do what I want. The thought of running wires out of one box and into the other doesn't thrill me and as was mentioned, the tops are large which makes the whole thing bigger.

Make sure you properly vent your box.

As one who has fought tryoing to get two si volt batteries in separate boxes in the tight space, as Atlee stated above. The handles on the boxes and the oversized lids fought each other for the space.

Tomorrow, I will have two new 6-volt golf cart batteries and this:

https://allbatterysalesandservice.co...atteries-gce-g

to put them in.

BTW, the golf cart batteries are Interstate that are blemishes. A new 6 volt battery lists at $130.00. The blems are $69.00 with full warranty. I don't really care if they are ugly.

What I saved on the batteries pays for the box.

I like that box but I question whether or not it's UV resistant. Anything I've seen made out of light colored plastic deteriorates in the sunlight. I suppose a call to Century might be a good idea.

I bought a pair of 105 hour Duracell batteries at Sams Club for $85 each. This should be way better than the old pair of mismatched 12V batteries I've been using for the past several years. I can always upgrade in the future once everything is set up.

Damn, these things are HEAVY!

I tried to buy some vents at Home Depot but I couldn't find them and the idiot sales people didn't know what a soffit vent was. They also couldn't tell me where the deck screws were located...so I bought that stuff online. God, I hate that place!
