How to use a generator
I am new to this rving thing, I have a new X23B and a Champion 2000 inverter/generator, I know I cannot run the AC with this, but should be able to handle most other demands. I am confused about how the use the gen. This model has a built in 10amp battery charger port also, I here about people using the gen to recharge batteries only, so do I use the gen for that only, if so do I use the built in 10amp charge port? Or do I plug the 15 to 30 amp adapter into the 120 v outlet on the gen and run off that? Oh I have 1 12v deep cycle only.

Hi Riplip, you must be a bass fishermen. You can run everything off the generator minus the AC and microwave if you have one. Plug the rv 30 Amp into the generator with an adaptor and let er rip, no pun intended The battery will charge while you’re running. Only thing with Champions is if you’re at altitude i.e. above 7K feet up it won’t work much at all. The champions don’t have a carburetor jet for altitude. All gens will lose power at high elevation but the Honda’s have different jets you can get depending on how high up you are. Have fun, rving is a blast!!

Thanks, I am a bass and fly fisherman, thanks for the response and the tip on the Champion, luckily in Missouri we are pretty far below 7K.

I also have a Champion 2000 inverter/gen and agree with everything Twistzz said, except it does run my microwave (at sea level ). Two years ago, while traveling out West, the Champion actually just quit working one day when we were above 7000 feet.

In this thread, I heard a positive response about Honda generator/inverters. I am planning a trip for next year that will involve a fair amount of dry camping. We have a White Hawk 27 DSRL and would like to know from the experts what brand and size of generator they'd recommend. We'd like to run the AC occasionally but not while running other things. Thoughts?

What size AC unit is it. 2000 watts usually won't start an AC unit but may be more than enough to run it once it is started. I have seen several posts about a startup capacitor which will allow a slower statup to not overwhelm a generator. Can anyone expand on this? I have a Durostar 4000 watt generator and can run both my AC units at the same time with it. One is a 15k and the other a 13k unit. I start the 15k first.

Redenbacher,
If your looking for a quite generator, both Honda and Yamaha come highly recommended.
As far as running the A/C, the Yamaha EF 2400iSCH will run my 13.5K A/C, and has been a great generator. I believe in the Honda line you would have to look at a 3000 watt generator for a single generator operation (don't have a model between 2000W and 3000W).
Also, with a connected pair (companion) of 2000W generators from either Honda or Yamaha you can run your A/C. A single 2000W genny in the majority of applications won't run a 13.5K A/C.
I assume your TT has a single A/C unit.

The AC is 13.5K. Should I get a 3-4K unit, 2 x 2000K? Suggestions?

Get two honda 2000's with a parallel kit. When not needing a/c just use one. You can rig a 6 gallon outboard tank to feed them as well. They will run 18 plus hours on one tank running the a/c full blast. Will only run one ac and small fan and tv and lights. Turn off ac comp and run microwave..hair dryers etc. With out ac will only need one and it will run for hours just on the internal gas tank. Light weight, like a suitcase. Easy to move around.

Texashighsheriff I've been meaning to ask. How did you get 1000+ ft lbs of torque out of your Cummins?

Delete delete delete...tune...
No DPF...No cat...No muffler....resonator only to keep out drone....4 inch tail pipe extender so we don't hear the exhaust.....true 4 inch pipes...cold air intake, great HP tuner.
It was the HO option from the factory as well. Last year for that. It came with 800 so getting extra 20 percent no problem.
2012 last year before having to add the nasty extra fluid. Plus you really can't modify the 2013's and up.

Texashighsheriff A friend of mine has a 2012 Cummins HO with a tuner as well. He hauls RVs out of Elkhart for a living. I have a 2009 15 liter ISX Cummins in my big truck. It puts out 1650 ft lbs and is set at 435 hp to save fuel. I have all the diesel after treatment still intact as I run to California a lot. I have almost the same TT as you. It is a 2014 Eagle 338 rlts with all the options. I recently installed a Power Twin II leveling/stabilizer just in front of the tandems.

If you like, jump over to the Jayco Mods forum to view/comment on "Texashighsheriff's" manual stabilizer(s) installation modification, he just posted the new thread yesterday:

You can get 2 - 2000 watt Champions (inverter style) for the price of 1 Honda and yes you can get a parallel kit for them. I have a cheap Champion for use in emergency's only. Had it for 6 years now and it always starts on the first pull so I am impressed with the company.

No doubt a champion runs great. The price difference is the noise level and fuel efficiency.
Honda runs at about 54-56 decibels...normal talking sound level..champion you can hear in the next county.

I have a 3000i Handi (Honda) really like it . Runs everything in the TT including the AC. Also makes a phenominal home standby, for which I've used it oh 2 often. Running through a 6 circuit Gen-Tran transfer switch 30A I can have my house up and electrified in about 3 min. Burns about 2 gal of gas in 24 hrs. I highly reccommended this model, Wt. 78lbs at 65dB. Kind of kills two birds with one stone

Several generator threads. Suggest you search and read them. Will answer all your questions and then you can make your decisions.
My input is don't buy a big generator to power up your AC that you might or might not need most of the time. The rest of the time your will regret the decision to go big. A 2000 [I'm a Honda guy but there are others] will run the camper including the microwave with just a little power management. The honda 2000i's and yamaha's are easily to manage, compact, and did I mention almost whisper quiet. Don't buy a cheap bargain generator. You get what you payfor when dealing with generators.

That's true....but as prolly 98 percent of any questions has been answered ESP if you searched the whole www...then this site would die a slow death.
It takes continuing interaction between members to keep it alive and growing.
Just my thoughts.
