GMC 7 way plug

Hey everyone,
I know about the issue some have with the 7 way plug showing disconnect then connect while driving.
I haven’t had it YET.
Was wondering those of you that have if dielectric grease helped?

Thanks

What helped most for us is keeping all of the 7 way contacts shiny clean with a light coat of dielectric grease.

Dielectric grease is non-conductive and acts as an insulator. A better choice would be CRC Contact Cleaner.

My GM dealer gave me a container of OEM GM dieletric grease after a service visit regarding the trailer disconnected warning. GM uses it on nearly all plug type connectors. It will protect the terminals from corrosion. There is no problem using it.

"""To debunk this common myth, our application and validation test design engineers created an Electrical and Water Resistance test kit. This test demonstrates the insulative properties of dielectric grease, in this case NyoGel® 760G, and proves that grease does not affect conductivity.

I have used dielectric grease on my trailer fittings for more than 20 years and never had a connectivity issue.

yes we had that problem and did not have dielectric grease. We were so lucky to find a GM dealer in Labrador City that did and they GAVE us the grease. It worked.

If you have a poor connection, dielectric grease, generally speaking, will not help. Dielectric grease is an insulator (as Route 66 Traveler stated). What it is good for is when you already have a good metal to metal contact connection then to use the grease to protect those connections from getting moisture and dirt/dust inside of the connector. ~CA
