Towing a 2018 Ford Edge

I’m setting up my Edge for flat towing. It’s the 2.7 with a 6 speed tranny so I’ve confirmed it’s towable. I’m getting a Patriot 3 brake system installed. Ford Manual says to disconnect the battery to tow. I have installed a charge line and am hoping I can avoid removing the battery cable. Anyone doing this?

Maybe use a quick disconnect for the battery. Amazon sells them for $10.

Why does it say to remove cable, to prevent dead battery or to remove power from the electronics? Two different animals. If it's to prevent a dead battery than the charge line should work, but will your odometer still rack up mileage?

I believe it's to keep the torque solenoid from trying to engage the RDU (rear drive unit) or to keep the transmission module from trying to engage the trans. since it's attached and cannot be disengaged from the vehicle. But don't quote me on that.

Edge

Evidently, it does have something to do with the transmission as mentioned above, so I’m putting in a battery disconnect. Thanks for all the replies.

Per my tech:

Disconnecting the black cable will keep the speed sensors from trying to engage the PTU.
