Extended Warranty on 2015 X18D

Hello all,

My wife and I are in the process of buying a slightly used 2015 X18D. The dealer is offering us a four-year extended warranty for $2800 CDN. This warranty covers all electrical, mechanical, and plumbing issues with a $50 deductible. If at the end of the warranty we don't use it, we get $2000 back.

What is everyone's experience with not only X18D's (which Jayco doesn't make anymore) but also the probability of breakdown of these potential expensive repairs on Jayco's in general from years five to ten?

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Nearly nil. Our X20E is our second hybrid. The first was an '03 Jayco Kiwi 17a. We had it for 10 years. Really no trouble with it at all. just before we traded it, it got a leak at a vavle for the water heater bypass. That was because I didn't open the valve and let anti-freeze through it when I winterized. Still, it would have been a $20 repair had I fixed it myself. Out X20E is 7 years old now. Also no trouble. I'm putting new tires on this year, but that's a wear item not covered under any warranty.

And if you use the warranty for even one small item, you don't get anything back. Extended warranties are a big profit item for the dealer and warranty issuer. Put half that money in the bank. If you really need a repair that you can't do yourself, that will more than cover it. When all is said and done expensive repairs on trailers like this are really rare.

Tire Warranty

We bought our 2016 X17Z used a year ago. We passed on the extended warranty. We did buy the tire warranty. The tire warranty covers tire replacement in case of a blow out. We thought it a good idea to have if we were on the road far from home.

Honestly, most repairs to these systems are simple to make and well within the skills of the average handyman. And most repairs are relatively cheap. I haven't spent that much on repairs to these systems on our 2011, but I HAVE spent a ton more than that on improvements. I have a problem with all the toys available on Amazon

I would say the odds are that you will not a $2850 repair in the next four years (that is essentially what the first repair will cost you, even if it only costs the dealer $100). That is also about 15-20% of the value of a 2015 HTT right now, that's a lot of extra profit for the dealer.

I've had my hybrid for 10 years and only had a couple hundred dollars in repairs, most I did myself (fresh water bypass valve, tail light assembly, fridge flame sensor). Roof leaks are your biggest concern and that's probably not covered by warranty.
