winterization without removing filter

Well, cold freezing temps. are almost here and I need to winterize my 2017 Jayco Greyhawk. We have the Girard tankless hot water heater. My question is this: Can I winterize with the water filter in place. I know it will be ruined but I was planning on replacing the filter in the spring when we start camping again. As I recall, the water filter was a booger to take out last time. Your input is appreciated.

We went ahead and removed the filter. Didn't want to leave any water in the cannister.

Good idea. Just a place for mold to grow.
