Bathroom Cabinet

Redhawk 24C:
Driving down from the Grand Canyon and the bathroom medicine cabinet falls off the wall! Screws just pulled out. I'm hesitant to take to dealer for repair, 'cause they will just screw it back in an inch over or so, doing the same thing expecting a different result, and it is very heavy (overbuilt).

I'd like to use a toggle bolt system, but am not sure of how much space is behind the wall, inside of the outer skin.

As an alternative, we are willing to look at a different (lighter) cabinet that would be screwed into the wall more effectively.

Any opinions are a help!

Thanks

They may have just missed the 2x2 framing which is probably 1.5 x 1.5 inches. Take a small diameter wire or tool and find the depth of the wall and weather they even hit the stud. Use a stundfinder or tap method.
Use wood screw a half inch shorter than the full depth of the wall so you don't get through and secure the lighter weight box with screws at least 3 or 4 inches apart so you don't split the stud.

Take a small screw driver or a thin piece of wire, or even a toothpick, and slide it into one of the old screw holes in the wall. It sounds like they missed the studs. Slide the screwdriver in until you hit the outside wall, and mark the shaft. This will tell you how deep the air space is and the size of toggle that you'll need.

Like already stated, you have to find and hit the stud. Because of small size of stud I would pre drill before screwing in. Also a toggle bolt/screw will not work on the thin walls of our rigs. Good luck

Enjoy the journey
