Off to look at Used Greyhawk ‘17 31FS

Going to look at a 2017 Greyhawk 31FS and am comparing to a new 31F. We have done a ton of research and am curious what questions you would ask if in our shoes. We will buy one or the other, but the used Greyhawk is being offered at about 20k less than a new ‘19. It has 10k miles, has been stored in a covered and enclosed storage space and an rv mechanic is giving it a once over now. This is our first Class C, but have owned a pop-up and a TT in the past.

Thanks for any advice, this is a big purchase.

Whats the price on the 17? I was looking at used 31fs's late last yr and ended buying a brand new 18 for about 6k more. I liked the 18 better since it had the newer style interior. The 17s look really dated now. But I'm sure that doesn't bother everybody.
Before buying we looked at the 31F at 2 shows. The 1 slide and walk thru bathroom is kinda cool but i ended up paying 69500 for my brand new 2018 31fs in October.

Haven’t negotiated on either one yet, (that starts this weekend) but the initial offer on the ‘19 is 80k and for the ‘17 it’s 60k.

What I would choose...

If the layout is the same, and the mileage is 10K difference, then I would go with the used unit. My reasoning is that someone has gone through the break-in headaches for you. All of the little build quality issues have (probably) been dealt with by the first owner. And 10K miles is nothing on these Ford V10 cutaway chassises.

Be advised that the Jayco warranty does not transfer (or didn't when we bought used).

It's the original owner only.

That was a surprise to the seller too and we negotiated a bit lower price with that info.

17's still had the tankless hot water heaters...not so good. Jayco went back to gas / electric standard rv type in 18's and 19's.

Also, the new ones should have a discount of 30-35% off msrp.

Be sure it has two air conditioners. A 31' coach needs more than one in the summer sun.

Thanks the insight and information. The mechanic checkout came back with a positive response on most everything and included a thorough check on the ‘17 31FS water heater.

Hoping that the boss is onboard with the walkthrough, sure would be nice to not pay new prices.

I have a 2017 31fs, and I would argue it's one of the best as it's still a pre-Thor Jayco. Even though Thor bought them in 2016, no line changes we're made till after 2017. A few examples; the 2017's still have the 12 way power drivers seat, and also the power swivel for the main tv in the overhead. I have also been told that the cabinetry is not as good quality as the 2017's. My 2017 has the updated gas valves on the tankless unit. To check it, look inside the unit to the left and lower and look for two black knobs that look like 2 big bottle caps. If they have a white ring around each cap your good to go. Mine give me no problems. Also, x2 on the two air conditioners. I consider two important enough to sway the deal in favor of whichever one has it.
