Tank waste valves leaking

It seems that both the 25-year-old valves for my blackwater and greywater tanks do not close completely and are leaking. Can these valves be replaced or is it necessary to replace the tanks? Thanks.

The valves are replaceable.

Here's one option: https://www.valterra.com/product-cat...-waste-valves/

There are others.

Yes they can.

You can also just buy the waste gate valve. They tend to be a little harder to find. But all you do is unbolt the connection and slip in the new with new seals.

Question, how much fluid do you have down at the cap when you remove the cap?

Have you tried to flush the valve body while it is open and emptied. If your valves are reachable by pushing a hose up from outside you might be able to flush out some paper or other debris that is plugging the knife blade type valve from fully closing.

The replacement is not hard if you can get to the valves. A bit more time and trouble on some models.
For best advice either post your make & model plus pictures or add them to your signature.

Jaygiven...
Is a waste gate valve different than the valves I am asking about? Somebody else shared a link to some valves. Are they the same?

Enough is in the drain that it rushes out when I take off the cap. Also it drips constantly.

If you look closely at the images below. The link OnTheGo posted, it is for full assemblies. They include the valve, plus the hardware that mounts to the pipes.

The link I provided, is just for replacement valves. Just unbolt the assemblies, and install the new seals and valves, and bolt back together. No cutting of pipes, no gluing. Be aware they come in all different sizes. I suspect your Grey water valve is 1.5" and the black tank is 3". You can get them with extension handles, flex cables. Usually you can just reuse the existing auxiliary handles.

I replaced just the gate on my Black Tank when it failed. Not too bad of a job. I made sure things were as clean and as sanitized as possible before I started (bleached), but not too bad of a job.

I've read that probably 14 times and have scrolled back though all the posts and still have no idea what it means nor what it is referring to.

Except your toes, of course.

As per RogerR's suggestion, I have added the year and make to my profile. Still have not figured out how to update my signature, but that is neither here nor there.

Looks like the links provided are what I am looking for.

Attached are pictures of my valves. Looks like I'll have to let them sit for a while with penetrating oil before attempting the replacement. Of course, they are not easy to get to like in that video.

A call to Valterra will be in order to get an extension. As shown in one of the pictures, the gray water valve has an extended handle to the back of the unit.

if it's just a dribble

This valve works like a charm, for those little dribbles that you'll get on the black disharge:

Not sure if your issue is more severe, but I love THIS product.

I also LOVE my new fan !

Isn't that just another (3rd) valve after the gray water and black water valves? Does it just stop the drip, not the leakage?

Easier than you think,

upper left corner hit User CP
then: on left side move down and tap "edit your details"
move down to "optional details" section and fill it in as you want displayed
Don't forget to "save details"
done!

Thanks for that info. I did all that when I first signed up. However, when following your instructions, I did find "EDIT SIGNATURE". That's now done, I think.
