Was told could not install slide toppers

Took my 2017 Greyhawk 29ME in for some warranty work and I asked to get estimate for Carefree slide toppers. (They are a Carefree dealer)
I was told the flanges on slides were too short to install brackets and could not be done. I know others have been told clearance on pass side is reason, but I have not seen where anyone was told flanges were too small?
Any recommendations or ideas ?

On my 2016 29MV I asked for toppers to be installed on the main slide and the bedroom slide. They installed a topper on the main slide, but I was told the flanges on the bedroom slideout were too LARGE (wide).

I put 2 solara toppers on our 29mv a little wider than normal, they both fit and work fine. I don't know why they would say that.

Slide toppers

I have a 2016 29MV Greyhawk.

My dealer added slide toppers for me this September. Both slides.

He did say he had to customize the brackets.

O'kay, I'm new at this and still shopping so please pardon my possible stupid question:
Don't Greyhawks have factory installed slide covers?
Thanks for helping educate me

Steve1152 and PapiG, do you have the make and part number for the bedroom slide topper you used?

PapiG, Can you show what was modified to make it work?

PM, or email me if you wish at Ron@HoonDog.com

Thanks!

My 2016 did not. They are included in the 2019 brochure, but not in the 2018 brochure.

Thanks Bullitt6283
That would be aggravating to buy one year and have to add them and then a year later they're included.

Thanks for the explanation...very appreciated!

I think just about anyone who owns a Jayco motorhome has been told that they can't put on slide toppers. It took us two years, but we persisted and finally found a dealer who would do it in New Castle, IN, near Middlebury. They're perfect. Ours are Carefree. For us it was a "must do".

Call Carefree

Hey Harleydawg,

I think every ME owner on here has gone through topper wars. I have a 2015 29ME. I put Carefree of Colarado Sideout III covers on just this year. Bill Dunning at Carefree of Colarado helped me order the parts properly and Campingworld in Syracuse installed them. Bills email is bdunning@carefreeofcolorado.com He was excellent to deal with. There were no issues with the flange and I am fairly sure our model years are identical as far as the slides go.

My product number for the passenger side slide was UP09462JV. This was the Black case, cover and fabric. If I can make one suggestion, on the passenger side measurement, go long and offset it forward. I went with 103" and centered it. That provides 98" of roof coverage and I think the actual roof measure is 98.5". This left a little bit of roof uncovered at both ends but fit inside of the awning issues. In retrospect I should have gone with the 105" and offset it to provide better coverage.

The one place they will have a problem is actually the driver side front bracket. The window gets in the way so they will have to cut the bracket to fit.

My price installed was $2224 to give you an idea up front. CW was running ther $100 per topper install deal.

I was told by Jayco that I could not add them to my Greyhawk 31DS for the same reason, but Carefree installed them on mine with no problems whatsoever.

We had both toppers put on our 2018 29 mvp by the dealer before delivery. I guess you just have to compare what Jayco adds & takes away each model year. Didn’t realize toppers were standard in 2019, but did notice they took away keyless entry & some other items we really liked.

Price of our leftover ‘18 with adding toppers was still significantly less than ‘19, so no frustration here!

2018 Greyhawk 29ME

I bought my 2018 Greyhawk MW last January and they were pre-installed, that's one of the reasons I spent a little more money on it. Maybe the fact that is had the upgraded paint siding that cost about 9-10K more made the toppers standard on this unit, not sure. The 2017 I wouldn't think is any different body wise than the 2018 so there should be no problem installing them. Great add ons and worth the extra money. Totally enjoy the ME since it's shorter than a lit of Class C's but still has plenty of interior room with double slides in the front as well as the dual AC's.

Slide toppers

I had slide toppers installed (they didn't come with the 2018 Jayco Envoy 100 class C 26-foot) purchased in March 2017. Partially through out 5-week western trip this summer I noticed the topper over the sofa/table slideout was not rolling up straight. When we got home I found that it had torn by the RV body. The dealer said it wasn't covered by warranty and I'd have to pay for a brand new one to replace it. I realized that the 40+ mph wind overnight in New Mexico must have torn the topper. I know to retract the awning before high winds but no one ever said to retract the slideouts. How could we sleep in bed without it being extended? Jeez.

We had a grey hawk with slideout toppers installed come in to our dealer. When the slide out was closed, the topper did not roll up correctly. It wedged in between the seal and slide out roof rubber causing the roof rubber to tear from the hard cast. Customer was very PO'ed when Jayco didnt cover the repair under warranty. This greyhawk did not come from the factory with them.

I was told the same thing by Jayco. Shade Pro came to my house and installed them with no problems whatsoever.
