Got some questions about inside cameras.
Greetings again,
I was watching a blog about traveling with pets and it was mentioned that this couple installed a wireless camera inside the coach so they could keep an eye on their pets. So this is where my questions come from...
I located a bunch of wireless cameras on Amazon but I'm confused as to how they would get the picture to my smartphone. I stay in campgrounds with Wi-Fi so do I need a wireless modem, in which I plug the camera into, so the modem connects to the campgrounds Wi-Fi which would send me the video of my pets? Confused...I am, so that's why I'm inquiring...
Any help would be appreciated....

Yes you need something for the cameras to connect to before your phone would get the images. So you would need a WiFi router that can act as a client to the rv parks wifi. Then your cameras can connect to your wifi router and then you cloud connect to them

In side cameras
Heck great question we are installing cameras to keep an eye on RV service techs when there in are camper!One guy I know his camera sends a signal to his phone, and watches live!

Look at using bluetooth connected cameras for your smartphone. This way you are not relying on an outside network.

That only works at a relatively short distance.
I'm not sure I would count on a Campground WiFi for me to see streaming pictures. Typically the WiFi is very limited and many slow down or stop anything streaming. Unless you know the campground and it's wifi capability you may be unhappy with the results.

You can use a Mi-Fi and leave it on in your Coach while you travel. Connect the camera to your MI-Fi and use it as your network.

A Mi-Fi is a mobile hot spot, in other words it is a cellular device that only projects a wireless hot spot for which you can connect your phone, a camera, etc.

That item is no longer available according to Verizon. Here we have ATT and no Verizon close by but thanks for the education...

Where did you get that ATT hot spot? What exactly is it? Do you have a model or name for it other then a Hot Spot?

Disclaimer I work for ATT but all carriers offer these devices. Just go onto a Carrier store and tell them you want a mobile hot spot. They can add the device and service to your current contract.

A hotspot is only one part. You need a dynamic dns to find the camera unless you use a third party like ring .com folks. For instance, I have a home router tied to a cable modem. My router has a vpn server and handles dns(this allows you to type a url and have it sync to your computers up address). I have a webcam that is streaming that I can access when on vpn. Maybe there is a good solution out there, but have not heard of one.

Okay here's what I've done to meet my goal.
I stopped at our local ATT store to see what they have for a hotspot device. They have a new little round unit that they sell for $200 or $10 a month. When it was explained to me that this unit would use up my 3g of data in a hurry and when I explained what I was trying to do the salesperson suggested I go to Best Buy and check into wireless routers.
I drove to Best Buy and spoke with a kid who was not very versed in what I needed to accomplish what I was trying to do. He advised I buy a wireless router which would tie into the campground Wi-Fi and then I could access the wireless camera in my coach so I could keep an eye on my pets.
So basically I'm more confused then before. Its a age thing. I'm old and just don't understand how to get this system to work or why it works...
