Hi Mr Greenjeans, We take that route a couple times a year to MN from Phoenix. Highway 54 is easier driving than the Interstate and is RV friendly. Campgrounds are far and few between in Kansas, we usually stay in Emporia, KS or Salina where we have found campgrounds. You may also encounter some windy conditions. You end up in Tucumcari and can pick up I40. We have stayed at Santa Rosa Campground,
Santa Rosa Campground & RV Site | New Mexico’s Premier Campground & Restaurant and also Tucumcari KOA. All are great overnight stays. Another thing to keep in mind are casino campgrounds. There are a couple on the west side of Albuquerque. Big sky has pull thru full hookup sites for under $20 a night with Good Sam discount. We usually take I40 and then angle down from Holbrook pick up 77 to 260 to the 87 through Payson to the east side of the Valley. Granted you may encounter snow. Or you can stay on I40 to Flagstaff and pick up I17 to Phoenix. But there may be snow around Flagstaff also. If you want any info please feel free to PM me.
