South Dallas recommendations

I know I'm probably way behind the power curve on this one but does anyone have any recommendations for south of Dallas. We just came upon some UT Vs. OU tickets on 8 October and want to take the 5er up there from the San Antonio area.

State park, private, doesn't matter. Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks!

For the "Red River Rivalry"? Dang, I would wish you good luck sir!

I would assume the place will be absolutely packed at that time. Between that game and the State Fair of Texas, the crowds will be thick for sure.

My wife is from there, I just asked her real quick if she had any suggestions and all I got out of her was to *not* hang out in South Dallas. Just check out the crime data for any area you consider staying at down there. I won't bore you with all of my anecdotal evidence.

Regards,
Mark

Thanks abarkl and Camper_bob!

Yep! We were at the Longhorn/Notre Dame game this past weekend too! What an epic event that was!! And we WON!

I actually lucked out and got a reservation at Cedar Hill State Park. Full hook-up and everything.

A bunch of the campsites are closed due to the recent flood damage but what they do have will be acceptable. Its ~20 miles or so from the fair grounds but $30 a night is better then $170 a night hotel any day!

We've been to the Dallas area a few times and our take is there are few options close to the city. We've settled for a 30 minute drive.

Daughter went to seminary at Brite Divinity School at TCU for three years. When we would visit her we would stay at the Jellystone Park at Burleson. It's actually south of Ft. Worth and may be a bit farther than you want but we always enjoyed staying there - and being a bit farther may mean you can get a reservation.

Lake Lavon has a Corps of Engr's park & wouldn't be any further a drive than Cedar Hill. Several private parks east near Terrell .
