Burnt Microwave Smell - help!
So we have a neighbor *cough* who put a 'non-microwavable' plate into the microwave to melt some cheese on crackers. This featherbrain *cough* accidentally set the time for 2:00 (thinking it was 20 sec) and headed outside. First time the smoke alarm went off since the heater ran for the first time! So now the tt's microwave has this awful burnt stench permeated into it. Really noticeable when you open the microwave door.
Soooo, can anyone let me know how to get the stench out? Ummmmm .... you know.... ummmm .... to help my neighbor out that is *cough*

As a suggestion, wash what you can reach. This will remove the surface smell (as best it can). Then, open door and place a small fan inside the microwave. Leave door open approx 1" and turn the fan onto high speed. Force air around and around inside the microwave - for 12+ hours. Other then wash and airing out, not too sure what else can be done. Hope this helps...

I wiped it out with one of those Lysol wipes. We don't have a fan with us, we'll have to wait til we get home to try that remedy.

Man sounds like my KiNd Of LuCk. Last year my wife and I were trying to get ciggarrett smell out of my sons car. We found a air sanitizer called Ozium. It is a glycolized air sanitizer. It is suppost and I quote right from the label of the can, to eliminate Smoke and Offensize Malodors Caused by Airborne Bacterial. From what I could find out on-line glycol air sanitizers are suppost to change odors on a molecular scale. It did work in my sons car, it might be just what your looking for. You should be able to find it at any auto supply. I got it at autozone. Hope this helps.

try heating a bowl of white vinegar in the microwave... 30 seconds not 30 min
You should put a sign in front of your "neighbors" RV that states DANGER MICROWAVE NOVICE.. THIS RV MIGHT EXPLODE"

In addition to vinegar, try a small bowl of water and sliced lemon. Or, I suppose heating a bowl of lemon juice.

Do like I would do. Tell dear wife you need help, then sneak outside and have nice cool glass of ice tea.

If that neighbor has some grandkids...they are usually pretty tech savvy...you might have them teach the neighbor how to use the microwave

One thing that will help get them away from the smell is to "camp out" tonight!

Not a snow-balls chance! I don't think those neighbors have the Taj Mahal of tents set-up like Tafische does (his Taj Mahal is posted somewhere in the Million's thread) and sleeping on the ground feels worse than the smell of burnt plate/cheese/crackers! LOL
Good news, after three days, the smell is only noticeable when you open the microwave door and "sniff" in there but will still try some of the above suggested remedies when we.... *cough* errrr, they get home
