Firearm in the RV?

Hoping this isn't a controversial post... if you don't own a firearm, don't like them, see no purpose in owning one, probably best to ignore. Not going to debate the 2nd amendment or why a firearm may be useful when camping. Also being fully aware of the laws regarding firearms in the states I camp in.. so no legal advise/warnings please.

For everyone else....

Have you performed any mods to your RV for storing a pistol, rifle or shotgun? I seldom go camping without one of the above items. Personal protection is part of it, but the bigger reason is I'm usually within a mile, or on BLM land and there are always opportunities to target practice nearby. I'm thinking the 12 gauge is pretty much ideal for an RV scenario though and am looking for some solid storage ideas... I keep eyeballing the space under our fold out couch. What have you guys done?

If/when I'm carrying while camping I will bring along my electronic pistol safe in case I need to lock it up properly in the camper (a big deal in general but especially in Mass), otherwise it's on my belt and in direct control.

A mod I have considered is putting a lock on the the bed platform so that you can't lift the bed up to get to the underneath storage, which is where I put my rifles and/or shotgun during travel. Since I haven't done that yet, I always lock the camper door. Technically that counts as "locked storage" (although that statement may only be as good as your lawyer LOL)

My parents have a camp up in NH so at least 1 or 2x a year I do travel with them so that we can plink around or shoot some clay traps.

Ionguns can be a challenge in an RV. Case them in soft case and hang in the closet works ok.

Always have two pistols with me. One in the truck and one in the RV. The one in the rv is on the closet shelf next to my bedside when asleep. The one in the truck is in my center console. I also have a carry permit for the state of Georgia.

A few years back (2013??), there was a string of threads on the topic. A few of them went into details on mods to make them secure. One I remember was modifications under a bunk, to have a bolted down steel lock box.

A search of the mod forum, may give you some ideas.

I carry a XD .45 in my manpurse and a Sig 9 concealed. I carry either on odd days, I'll leave it to the thugs to decide which is an odd day. There may or may not be long guns in the camper depending on where I'm traveling. I avoid toxic 2A states like the plague.

Thanks you all for the comments. I knew there were at least a few of us on here. I'll search for the older posts too. Thus far, I've been storing my 870 in a soft sided case under the foot end of the bed, on the floor where there is a small overhang above for the mattress. I like that spot enough I'm thinking about making a permanent, lockable mount in that general location + I already have been coming up with plans to lock the bed down so it isn't quite as easy to bust into the pass through and pop up into the bedroom like a whack-a-mole. The under the couch option is viable, but almost too secure if you know what I mean. Having second thoughts there.

I also have my CCW permit, one in the truck, one in the closet above my 'nightstand'. 10MM when I'm in bear country. The long gun issue is the most problematic. Lots of cubbies to secure a pistol. I'll take pics when I get my system figured out since it sounds like it's of some interest. (thank god )

I don't carry but, I know my storage above my bed would be ideal. It has a cabinet door that you could probably add a lock to if need be. Not sure if that would be super secure though. If I did carry, I may opt for a small safe bolted to the floor...maybe under the bed???

When we purchased the Pinnacle, we specifically requested they put in locks on the bed. (Our previous unit had been broken into 3 times so we needed to secure valuables.) We can place the guns, including rifles/shotguns, there. While sleeping I keep mine next to me. Wife has one but depends on me. There is also a safe under the bed.

While traveling I put mine in the door. However, if we are traveling in areas that forbid, we put in a safe in the center console.

When the grandkids come to visit, we make sure to lock everything up.

Now, will that keep anyone out? No because if they really knew anything about trailers & knows the mattress lifts, they will use a sledge hammer to break through.

Some of the larger units have built in safes. I have a bio-metric safe bolted inside my trailer for storing my pistols when not being carried. For long guns, I would figure out how to lock the bed, that space is perfect for long guns.

"these threads normally end up locked"

10-4 - I'll be on my best behavior. This may be a topic better suited for other forums, so if it even begins to get out of hand, please shut it down. I'll do my part.

So far so good though and thank you for those links. I'll check them out here shortly.

You can get pretty creative with these, I don't like to be away from home and not as "armed" as I would be there.

Long guns in tow vehicle.
Hand guns on body or on magnets holder. Server in various places in the trailer.

Lethal and non-lethal options. Follow laws in non-permissive locations if I have to be there. Firearms are tools.

As stated in other threads, in 2011 the Eagle fifth wheels had a lock box installed in the under bed storage.

I have never used mine.

The biggest solo trip I have is for fall Muzzleloader season in Eastern WA.
I store all the long guns on my upper-bunk in soft cases, and any pistols I might bring in their own case as well. Boxed ammunition is kept in a crate on the floor. I rely on the trailer locks for security. While out hunting, I usually have my BP rifle and a shotgun in the truck with me.

My other three hunting partners use the same philosophy, though one has considered installing a slide out safe under his 5th wheel bed, that is more for tidy storage than security.

Yes I do, generally two handguns. The shottys stay at home (unless I'm headed to the shotgun range).

Be aware of the laws of the states or countries you are traveling through and to.
I have to watch magazine capacities at times.
