Need new tires - reccomendations.
Well, after waiting a few months to finally get the body work completed on my G2 32BHDS all is well. For anyone that doesn't remember the thread I posted about it, the stock Goodyear tire I had blew out going down the interstate and tore things up pretty good.
Goodyear did pay for the damage, and was very easy to deal with, but I am not feeling too hot about them after reading a ton of similar experiences on the internet. Maybe therr is/was a real systematic issue, and that's why they were so eager to pay up?
Anyway, I've heard good thing about Maxxis, but have no idea if anyone in Knoxville sells them. What other brands should be considered? I've heard some good thing

I've had several trailers over the years consisting of utility trailers, boat trailers and RV's. I have only had a bad experience with one manufacturer, and that was Carlisle tires on a boat trailer. IMO, Carlisle trailer tires are junk! I've had Goodyear Marathons and Maxxis trailer tires as well, with no issues to date.
With that being said, if i was in the market and had to shop for new trailer tires, i would have Maxxis at the top of my list and they would be my tire of choice. If you cant find a dealer near you, go through www.discounttire.com. Thats where i got my last set and had them installed locally.

I feel your pain, I've had 7 tire failures since 2004 on my travel trailer. Six of them were Goodyear Marathon and 1 Carlisle. All were load range D.
After my last tire failure in 2009, I finally wised up and bought load range E. Since then, no more failures.
Currently I'm running Maxxis 8008 ST Load Range E tires on the curbside and Carlisle load range E streetside.
Long story short, I bought Carlisle tires in 2009 when I had 2 failures within 5 miles. I asked for Maxxis, but I was in the boonies and the only load range E tires available were Carlsile. When I got home I replaced the other 2 tires with Maxxis E's.
I plan to replace all the tires this summer with Maxxis 8008 ST load range E.
No more Goodyears for me. Glad they were helpful to you. I can't say the same for myself.

My hubby said the same thing!! He said he would not buy any TT that had them on. He's had them on his trailers and always had to bring spares b/c he was guaranteed a flat every time.

I found a local dealer that can get 10 ply, load range E Maxxis to replace my 4 Marathon for about $700 - includes balancimg, taxes and everything else. For the time being I would probably keep one of the Goodyears as a spare. Does the price sound about right?
BTW the sales tax is just a bit shy of 9.5% in TN. The price per tire is about $150.

Some tire brands are better than others, but an important factor is keeping the air pressure at the rated load range...If your tires are max at 50 lbs of pressure that is where your max load range is..Under inflation lowers the carrying capacity, allowing tires to blow out easier..Another major problem is tire age, tires are dated, and after about 4 or 5 years become extremely less reliable...Also tires that are not used enough tend to dry rot, covering them when stored helps a lot, On many RV's ( With low Milage) the tires can look new treadwise, but be very unsafe due to dryness....

I religiously check the tire pressure before every tow. All my failures were on tires 3 years or younger. I never tow over 65mph. I have weighed my lashup numerous times and never close the the max weight on the tires.

Agreed - I check tire pressures before every trip as well, to include return trips. I carry my own compressor as well, just to make it easy.

Even though ST tires are only rated for 65 mph, it's intesting to note that Goodyear "authorizes" increasing Marathon tire pressure by 10 psi if driven over 65 mph. I have started inflating my load range D Marathons to 75 psi even though I never exceed 65 mph. So far, so good.

I'm so OCD I carry two, a 12 volt and a 120 volt. Plus an inverter to run the 120 if I don't have shore power.

I read that notice as well. I still had failures of Goodyear tires.
So far, the only thing that has worked is going to load range E.

I will be replacing my "E" rated tires with "G" rated. I'm not over the max load per tire, but closer than I like. The "G" tires will give me a few hundred more pounds cushion.

I will likely stay with E rated tires. Will price Maxxis when the time comes.
I have been looking at tire pressures and temps on my TST monitor and have noticed the tire pressures increase over 10 psi when hot. I don't know if I want to start out 10 psi high.
I can run all day at 63 mph.
