New Cargo Platform
I've wanted to get the generator out of the truck and onto a cargo platform on the back of the trailer for some time now. During our last trip, I noticed that the trailer came from the factory with attachment points for a cargo tray so I contacted my Jayco dealer and they got me a quote. $774 plus shipping and tax.....
I have the tools, so I roughed out a plan and had a mechanical engineer at work check the dynamic loading in Solidworks so I'm good to go.
Support bars are 2-1/2 x 1/8 wall square tube and the platform is
2-1/2 x .078 wall square tube, 1/2" expanded metal, and some 1/4" round bar set 1" above the deck for convenient tie-down points.
I threaded some holes in the bottom of the support brackets to remount the stabilizers.
Here is the result:
I can stand on it and jump up and down and it does not deflect any noticeable amount
Oh yeah, I spent about $200 on materials

I may cut out the 4" risers just to make it easier to get the genny on there..

Wow that is very nice. Could you not load the gen from the end without the riser? They
look good for securing rope to.

Can yours fold up or be removed nice looking setup. Those brackets make it easy to devise a proper support.

No, the platform is fixed. It does bolt to the supports though, so I could remove it without too much trouble.

I have been searching for this thread! I remember seeing it, but could not find it with a search. very nice looking tray, and appears to be very sturdy. Looks like you could add a 2 inch receiver also for a bike rack? Thanks

Looks good. Been wondering, instead of unbolting it just put a sleeve in the bars that bolt to the frame and drill a hole thru it and put a pin [like that holds the receiver in] so that it can be locked and might be easier to take it off. the bars that bolt to the frame will still stay there.

Of course you will now have another problem of leaving your generator out in the open when you leave your trailer unattended...
I found the best place for my generator over the years remains secured in the back of my covered truck bed. Out of sight out of mind has worked wonders for us over the years. My high dollar generator goes where we go...

Nice workmanship!
The chain just has to be bigger for the genny on the back of the trailer!
Now you also have to watch at short inclines not to loose your stabilizer. In my opinion they could be at least 26" inwards
More weight on the back means less on the front, how you going to compensate and how about the stability when traveling?

That was my original plan but I realized that the tubes would have to be perfectly parallel for sliding to work so I opted for fixed mount.

I have a 1/2" thick cable that I loop around one of the support tubes and around the handle of the genny (which is steel)

By my calculation the weight change on the tongue will be about 35 lbs. Since this trailer runs almost 14% I'm not concerned. Rest assured, if it affects stability I will most definitely put the genny back in the truck.
