Ok to shore power with battery removed?

Just wondering, I yanked the coach battery out (completely out) to test it tomorrow. I'm wondering if it's OK to plug into shore power with the battery out?

What got me thinking was that the leads will be energized, I'm assuming, since the converter would be trying to charge the battery.

Is the converter smart enough to notice the missing battery?

thanks

It's fine, just make sure the power leads don't ground out

I would tape up the NEG just like I stated. You won't have a complete connection with the NEG disconnected & taped up to prevent any possible contact with a ground source.

Anything metal the pos cable touches is already grounded.....

The 12 volt system in an RV is floating meaning the return/ground side comes from the battery or the converter and is only referenced to that RV. It really makes no difference which side is isolated. If one side of the battery is isolated from the RV, there is no current path for the battery.

The risk involved is when disconnecting the positive side, the tool comes in contact with a grounded metal point on the RV. If the ground is disconnected first, this risk isn't there unless the tool touches the other battery terminal.

Yeah, I'm with Seann on this one !!
The only battery lead that needs to be taped up (isolated) is the positive lead.
If the ground lead accidentally touched the frame of the TT, it wouldn't matter because that's what the opposite end is fastened to making the whole trailer negative (ground).
When plugged into shore power, the positive lead will be +12V (+13.4 actual volts) to charge the battery. If this touches ground, the charge circuit will trip.
