2001 Chev 2500HD
Sold my Duramax to solve little ca$hflow i$$ue.
I found in absolutely mint, well maintained 2001 Chevy 2500HD with a 6.0 Vortec, 4 speed automatic with 4.10 gears. I will be pulling approximately 8000 lbs. Anyone out there have a similar rig that can tell me what kind of gas mileage to expect and can I expect adequate power?
Thanks !
RB

LOL power to spare but you won't pass a gass station. Great motor though. .

Plenty of power, I still tow regularly with mine. I found it does best towing heavy loads using super unleaded. 8 to 10 towing depending on terrain and speed. Good luck you will love the capability of that truck.

With my 2002 2500HD 6.0L gasser/4.10 gear towing my loaded 8,500lb TT I average 8mpg to 9mpg under ideal towing conditions. Throw in a nasty head/crosswind I've dropped as low as 7mpg.
I start considering my next fuel stop between 1/4 and 1/2 tank of fuel....... empty to 1/4 can go fast

13mpg around town, towing average around 8mpg. Florida and back averaged 6.5mpg. Never had a power problem but on hard acceleration it likes the 4500 to 5000 rpm band

My 8.1 liter is around 7.5 mpg. At least with the big block I don't see the high rpms my small block loved so much !!

I had the ECM on mine reprogrammed by a company called Black Bear. They removed the rev limiter, played with the timing and shift points a bit and now it's a great performer on super unleaded.

I tow with an '07 3500HD Silverado 6.0l.
Never had a power issue towing a 28BHBE with average weight around 8800lbs.
Average approx 9-9.5 mpg in BC interior. Lots of hills here. Axle is 3.73 I think. Never really paid attention to ratio as she does the job I ask of her with no complaints. Trans is 6spd.
Happy camping!!

I'm about the same as the others, roughly around 8mpg. I'm running 265's so that's dropping my final gear ratio a little bit. I've never felt short on power either.
However, Im going up I-40 through Black Mtn. to Tennessee next month so that comment could change!

I just bought a 2005 Chevy 2500 4x4 with the 6.0, 4 sp auto, and 4.10. It has oversize tires. 285's instead of 245's. I pull a 24FBS and got 8 mpg, figured by pen and paper. I'm not sure how to figure in the tire change, but I do know they are about 2" taller than specs call for.

I can't comment on fuel economy. However as a ex dealer tech I can tell you the 6.0 is a great motor. The only Real issue I've really ever seen with them is they like to snap exhaust manifold bolts.I would get a flash light and look around where the manifolds bolt to the heads. If they are all there you are good to go.

Yep 6.0 is a good motor. My wife's Denali has it and yes they snap manifold bolts. My wife's Denali has two that are snapped but since no sign of exhaust leak yet they are not getting fixed... Won't tow like the duramax obviously but should be fine for 8k pounds.

If the broken ones are all the way in the front or rear they make a clamp system to eliminate the need to drill the bolts or pull the heads(rear no room).
