2342 pound payload

That's what I've got. Opening a can of worms.

2015.5 6.6 Duramax 2500HD crew cab standard bed (6.5 ft.) Z71 LTZ Chevrolet.

My wife is in love with a 336FBOK. So am I, although the length kind of intimidates me. The longest trailer I've pulled is my 35 ft windjammer travel trailer around 1500 miles and that pulls like a dream.

The specs listed for the 336fbok on the jayco website are:
2050 pin weight (I find this hard to believe and even questioned the jayco rep about it)
10895 weight empty (the one I looked at at the Tampa RV show was 11,200 empty) It had everything we wanted on it.
13750 gvwr.
40 ft. long.

I know I'll have to add the extra spring that the 3500HD has, it's supposedly the only difference between the 2500HD and 3500HD (outside of tires). My tires are only rated for 3195 so I'll probably have to upgrade those also. I have the 20 inch tires.

I wouldn't even be asking except for the fact the reason for the upgrade is wife wanting a washer/dryer. So figure another 200 pounds right on the nose of the trailer. So that runs me a lot closer. Plus figure 450 pounds of people and dog in the cab. Can't blame that on the wife, it's me and the huge dog.

I don't blame her for wanting a washer/dryer. We love our windjammer but it doesn't have one and I'm having to take her to the laundromat once a week and she doesn't like it. When I go back to Florida by myself next week I'm guessing I won't like it either.

If we hook onto this and go on a trip we will be taking most of the time
My golf clubs
Coleman roadtrip
table
2 folding bikes
dog kennel
chocks, levelers, other necessities
my tool box for emergencies
3 ton jack

Let me have it, pile on. That's why I asked. I'm wanting honest opinions. If I win the powerball tonight this thread won't matter cause I'll either buy a kodiak or an M2.

Correction: Tonight isn't powerball night, it's megamillions night.

So same thing applies if I win megamillions.

I won't pile on. I don't know about chevy, but the only difference between a Ford F-250 and f-350 is a bigger spacer block on the rear leaf, the badging and the gvwr (which is used for registration purposes--$$$). Same brakes, engine, tranny, shocks, etc. So, in essence there is no difference. You could add the extra spring, and change your tires and in reality have a 3500 truck, but the sticker will still remain the same. Plenty of folks tow with a 3/4 ton truck and don't think twice about it. Heck, I used to as well.
If I had a newer 3/4 ton like you, I'd probably do the same thing if I couldn't (didn't want to) upgrade trucks.

Good luck and happy camping.

I'm in agreement with Tom, but then again, I'm one of those guys towing with a 2500. The only difference between the single rear wheel version of the 2500 vs. 3500 is the rear suspension. I added airbags and higher load tires to my 2500. It doesn't change my sticker on the door jam, which is why I've been looking at 3500 dual rear wheels lately. I just can't get the deals right now, like what I got back in 2014...so I'm not willing to buy!

I haven't had any issues towing with my current setup.

All I can say is don't let folks beat you up about what you decide to do. If it feels comfortable...go with it...if it's the worst towing experience you've ever encountered...then you will need to upgrade the TV.

Have fun...isn't that what's it's all about?? Just be as safe as you can be.

Mathematically you are running pretty close.

2050 pin weight
200 estimated washer / dryer
450 estimated people / dog(s) / gear
-----------------
2700

If the numbers you quoted are accurate, I'd have to say no way. You are 360 pounds over before you've put anything in the camper. Fill your fridge, cabinets, water tanks and ???

Honest opinion is no way since you asked. You are over your stickered limits before you put a pound of anything in your camper... using your data.

Some will probably say go for it... they don't have to live with that choice though.

I would expect that loaded you will be between 12k and 13k# and 3k+ on the pin. You've got 2.3k# total payload (that number covers both axles, the pin weight lands almost completely on the rear axle alone). IMHO you should tow with a 1 ton minimum.

I plan on adding the extra spring that puts me to 3500HD capability. I know my door sticker won't change but the capabilities will increase.

I am going on a tangent. I recommend that you speak to people with the washer/dryer in the RV. I have spoken to a few owners and each one of them have told me that they are not worth having for it takes multiple hours to wash and multiple hours to dry plus the load of laundry you can do is extremely small.

Consider where you are going with the rig as well. I know locally they target RVs since so many tend to be overweight. I don't know if there was an accident that sparked this, or if it's a pure cash grab. Even if you modify the truck to be the same as something with a higher GVWR it won't get you off tickets. Worse is if you can't get rear axle light enough to be within GVWR for the truck, they can impound your trailer until you do. I've only heard of the tickets with threats to impound though, so I'm mostly sure it's just done for the cash grab aspect of it.

Towing big 5th wheels with a 3/4ton truck is probably the most abused aspect of towing in the industry. We all know it because we all see it, all the time. There's some members of this Forum that do it. Of course that doesn't make it right. Other forums would say to just put airbags on it and go. Towing safety should be your biggest concern and if you plan on adding an extra leaf and if that's the only difference between a 3/4ton/ 1 ton Chevy, it does seem kinda silly to go out and buy a 1 ton truck for the price of 2 leaf springs. Would I do it? Probably not but if I did, I sure as wouldn't tell anyone.

Ha ha ha. No piling on here. I think you pry know what you will get when asking this question.

In some way there are 2 types of people in this world. Those who tow overweight, and those who don't. Your answer may just depend on which category you fall in.

I wish you luck!
