Borrow your TV
A good friends truck burned this weekend. Something in the engine compartment. Unforetunately, he has a trip planned and is leaving this Saturday. I offered him my truck if something happens and he can't get his truck fixed. He said he'll most likely just buy another truck this week. When I hung up, my wife had this look of "YOU WOULD LEND HIM YOUR TRUCK??!!" She didn't have a problem with it, she just couldn't believe I made the offer. I've known him forever and I know how he is and how he treats his stuff so I had no problem with it.
So, got me to wonderin'...
Would anyone here lend their TV out to someone? (not family)

I would IF: (1) Have known them for at least 10 years. (2) They have towed without incident for at least that long. (3) Their vehicles don't look like they belong in a junk yard. (4) No outstanding warrants. (5) Etc. Etc.

We sort of have an unusual arraignment already.. Our driveway is too short to park our camper, our good neighbor and friend of 13 years lives right across the ally from us. He has a 50' long 3 car driveway.. His car is on it's last leg, and he for the most part works from home. (IT manager for a large company). Anyway, he lets us park our camper and TV in his driveway and in return he can use the TV anytime he wants.. He probably only drives 10 - 20 miles per week. Since the TV is a dedicated SUV just for the camper it is probably better that it gets driven a little each week instead of just sitting there for weeks for months at a time without being used... And you can see in my signature that I like to joke around with him about driving it...

Totally depends on who it is.an acquaintance...no. But my neighbor that I went to high school with, yes. Some crew members of my boat yes, one in particular, NO! That being said, my wife won't let me drive her car. I haven't driven it since the day I bought it. My son has never driven it.

I have a few friends I'd trust with my vehicle based on the way they treat theirs. I know my friends well enough to know they don't have warrants out on them. :0

Friends: NO; most of my friends treat their cars like crap, and most have never driven anything bigger than a small SUV. I would let my neighbor borrow it before any of my friends. I know my neighbor takes care of his stuff, and would take care of mine. I would probably do it, but I'd be wringing my hands the entire time, and ONLY if it were a pretty big emergency. But then my neighbors (all of them) are HIGHLY independent (like me) and would likely never ask in the first place unless it was some kind of emergency.
Family: Some yes, some no. My BIL; NO WAY! My dad or my brother; most likely yes; they both take good care of their vehicles, have towed A LOT of different things including TT's, and, most importantly, are financially solvent enough to take care of any damage!

I have one friend that I would loan my truck to as I trust him explicitly and we swap equipment regularly but if it was anyone other than him there is no way I would loan my truck to them.

There are people I lend my truck to, but I'd run it by my insurance agent to make sure coverage allows it.

The list of friends/family I'd be willing to lend my truck to is pretty short . . . The couple experienced at driving / towing something similar, understanding how to take care of it and, sufficient funds to make it right if something goes wrong.
The offer extends only to the TV, the 5th wheel is ours and only ours.

Yes indeed it would be a short list.

Better to lend your truck to a trusted friend than rent out your trailer to strangers!

It's SO FUNNY that this came up! Well, this and the other thread about lending/renting out your TT!
Just yesterday, DW thought we should put our trailer on a semi-permanent spot and rent it out! I said "NO WAY! Now, if you want to get ANOTHER trailer and rent that out, then we can talk."

We have an arrangement with a good friend who drives a lot and needs a heavy duty truck, in fact when his last truck was totaled (a 00 sd cc 7.3 426K miles on it) we sold him ours (which was a 03 7.3 cc sb) and down graded (I guess some might call it that) to a 6.8L sd ex cab, short box. The diesel was becoming too much hasle for my folks (who own half of the truck) and more often than not, it wouldnt start when they needed it. Any how, the agreement is if one of our two trucks break down and the other needs one to get them by while theres is getting fixed, its no big deal. But its not intended to be more than a few days at a time and has never been. He uses our truck maybe twice a year for a few days at most. We only really ask to use his if we are going on long trips, which doesnt happen much anymore.

I would lend my truck to one person, but he's got a Ram 3500 CTD so I know he can handle a large truck. However I wouldn't lend the trailer to anyone. All the flaws are known to me and I like keeping it that way.

I would never loan my truck or ask to borrow some ones truck. It is too much of a liability issue. Every time I borrow something I have to buy to 2, one for me and one to replace the one that broke. I think I would save my friendship and suggest they call Enterprise as they rents heavy trucks. But I am not heartless if a friend of mine truck broke down while pulling his trailer I would be glad to go pick it up.

I'd never loan my truck to anyone, and if anyone asked, I'd say, "Tell me what you need done, and I'll give you a hand with it." It's happened a few times, and it prevents anyone from damaging the truck and doesn't make me look like a selfish S.O.B. You need something done, ask me and I'll help. But don't touch the truck.
But many years ago, I did know one guy, more of an acquaintance than anything, who was getting kicked out of his apartment for not paying his rent. He called me and said he's getting everyone he knows who has a vehicle to come and help him. He didn't offer to pay for gas, and he didn't even really ask. I told him no way; my truck was only 3 months old (the truth at the time) and didn't have a single scratch on it, so I'm not helping him.
