Tires/Rims
We have a 2003 23b Kiwi. The tires on it when we got it are 185-80R13's. We need to replace the tires and have a couple of questions -Are there any tire brands we should stay away from? is it possible to change the 13" rims to 14" rims (we'd like more ground clearance). Is there enough clearance between the top of tire and the trailer to do so?
Thanks for your help!

I have a 2001 17A Kiwi with the same 13 tires. I recently lifted it 4 inches and am now contemplating going to 14" wheels. Keep in mind the diameter of your current tires (height). The next size up in 14" is usually about 1.5 to1.75" taller. As long as you allow about 3" min. Clearance to the fender wells you should be OK.

When you go with tires Go with Maxxis Tires. Also check with discount tires direct as they run some very good deals on them from time to time. They are also on e-bay.

I just installed 4 Maxxis 8008 205-75.15 tires from Discount Tires. Had them mounted, then realized they were "new" 2 year old tires (stamped 10 14). Complained to Discount and they said it can take up to 2 years to get tires shipped to them from Thailand. I wanted them to send me new 2016 tires or a 40% refund as I change tires every 5 years..3 years left. They said send back if you don't want them but basically too bad.
Question: tires have not been on the road and look brand new. Am I still good for my 5 year replacement time or are they really considered 2 years old???
Happy RVing,
Jeff

That is a question I am curious as to how all will answer, my situation was different as they were 12 years old and did not look hardly used. I read something here about tire age after 5 years regardless you should get new, however not being used I think the answer would be more to your advantage.Shelf life for tires not driven on what does the group think ? I was fortunate mine were made in Nov 23rd 2015. and actually were put on today the dealer called me asked me what I wanted to do with the old ones...

Seems a funny answer from them. First of all it doesn't take that long shipping tires from Taiwan. They just had them that long in stock what's seems unusual, unless the warehouse people used the fresh stock coming in.
Tires even degrade some in the warehouse because rubber get harder over the years. But since they where not subject to UV-rays they still will go for your 5 years of service and even longer. But since the Tire manufactures want your money they recommend 5 years. Yes here in Canada is a supplier who recommends 3 years for Trailer Tires.
