Replacement LP Tank
We need to replace the LP tank on our 2004 Greyhawk but cannot find a tank with the same specifications. It was manufactured by Manchester Tank with 16.5 gall capacity, 13 in dia., 32.9 in long, Serial # 1356223. Can anyone out there help us? We are in Texas until mid-April then we will return to Ontario, Canada.

Sounds like a non-US standard.. You probably can just go to any propane refill place and get it refilled instead of swapped out.. I am assuming the connector is the same??

Amazon sells the Manchester model #6828, its 16.36 gallons, 14"x40" for $540 with free delivery. Or model #6817, 11.28 gallons, 12"x32" for $573 with free shipping. What is the problem with your tank that you need to replace it.

Is it just surface rust that can be cleaned up and painted. These are heavy duty tanks compared to the DOT portable which are lightweight and have to be recertified, the ASME tanks don't have to.

Two motorhomes ago I had a Gulfstream that also had its propane tank go bad due to rust. I also discovered that the exact Manchester tank was no longer made. I was able to find one slightly larger and had room to install it in place of the old one. I did have to modify the mounting bolts, but it wasn't too difficult. The gauge, fill, and outlet were identical to the original tank making the swap very easy.
On my last motorhome I noticed early that the onboard tank was already getting pitted and starting to rust. I cleaned it thoroughly with a wire wheel and repainted it. I touched it up annually after that. Stayed good until I traded it for my Jayco. I will service the Seneca similarly.
I'm sure many of our tanks are vulnerable to road spray, I wish Manchester applied a more durable coating initially.

Advice I received long ago was to make sure the tank is repainted white, if painted a dark color it might absorb even more heat possibly causing the relief valve to activate in extreme conditions. The reason I mention this is that I was considering painting my former unit's tank with rubberized undercoating to better resist road spray damage. My local propane supplier strongly cautioned me against that path saying he had seen instances where the propane did over-pressurize and vent because the tank was painted black.
I guess there is a legitimate reason every tank I have seen is white or silver!

There is a paint called Trailercote made for marine environments. It is silver and very durable. Used it on a painted trailer(No longer own) That I used in a salt water area. Worked great. Beware. wear gloves & crappy clothes. This paint cannot be cleaned up with regular solvents. Only thing that will remove it is strong paint remover. I got some on my hands & had to wait for it to wear off.Can be purchased at West Marine or any marine store. Probably Amazon.

May want to check out a product called "SharkHide". Rather expensive but it gets great reviews for protection and durability.

Nope...most metals. Most commonly used on pontoon boats which is why most think it's for aluminum only.

Ok. I have only seen it used on aluminum. Wonder how it works on rusty metal?

It's just a protective coating (and a very good one), you have to prepare the metal first.

What about having someone spray a white bedliner on it to protect it from road debris?
