Battery Disconnect/Master Switch

I brought my fifhtwheel (2016 Eagle 293RKDS) to the storage lot last week and noticed that after the master switch has been turned off, there is still power to the electric autoleveling unit. Does anyone know if this is normal? Everything is off, no lights or radio.

Thank you

Levelers and slides are big current draws and don't generally go through the 12VDC disconnect switch. Your propane monitor also stays on.

We found out the hard way that the camera also stays powered if the switch is on.

Thank you. I will install an heavy duty quick disconnect switch for my first project next spring.

Im sorry i meant to say that if you turn the main battery switch off the camera is still powered. Make sure you turn off the rocker switch for the camera inside the docking station.

Most don't have a switch for the camera. It was a little game Jayco played.

MarMic, replace the little 50a self resetting breaker that Jayco put in with one of these.
I don't know why anyone would want a self resetting breaker. If ther breaker pops then I would like to find the problem instead of it self resetting.

With this breaker near the battery you can shut your whole rig down when you want to.

It's not just an issue on the storage lot - if you're boondocking and you're trying to make your batteries last, then that extra draw can also be a problem.

Several Threads on how the Jayco disconnect switches are wired (with photos):

What klassic said is a great idea. I too would much rather figure out what caused the circuit to overload, rather than have it reset.
You can also get the breaker klassic linked too in other current ratings, if needed.

I still don't understand the point of having a master battery cut off switch if it doesn't actually cut all power to the unit. I consider this a flaw by Jayco which causes my batteries to drain every time I put the unit in storage for a couple weeks.

Just add an additional switch, they're relatively inexpensive and easy to do, I did, and very happy cause I too found out the hard way their switch pretty much was useless

Or be really cheap, and at the storage lot, take out your crescent wrench, and disconnect one of the terminals....

Just remember to bring your wrench with you when you go to pick it up!

The battery must be connected while towing. I believe this is the reason there is no actual battery disconnect in the design. The use of battery disconnect switches for system disconnect is common. The break away switch and applying battery voltage to the brakes in the case of a disconnect while being towed is the reason your system disconnect does not disconnect the battery.
