Eagle HT compaired to a regular Eagle.

Well here I go and this is only MY OPINION. I think that the Eagle HT's are built just as good but have the reduced weight for the 1/2 ton pickups. The heavest Eagle HT 5ther is about 1000 lbs lighter than the lightest Eagle. My wife and I started off with a 2012 Eagle HT 23.5 RBS. It weighed just under 6000 lbs dry. We pulled a jetski trailer behind our 5er with a 2012 Chevy 1500 Crewcab, with a 5.3L engine. I built the ski trailer so it is heaver than most ski trailers. I was pushing a tow weight of 10,000 lbs and this was pushing the max on my pickup. My wife and I upgraded our 5er to a 2016 Eagle HT 28.5 RSTS. I am now pushing 10,000 lbs and I don't have my ski trailer hooked up. Going down the road I feel the back end of the pickup swaying back and forth. I do have a airbag system, the Firestone Ride-Right to help. We made two long trips, first was going to Vegas to the Nascar Sprint Cup Race. The second trip was to South Texas to Mustang Island. My wife and I have come to a conclusion that if you don't leave a some room with towing weight when you have a 1/2 ton pickup then you really need a 3/4 ton truck. I am a Chevy man and did my homework for a 3/4 ton pickup. I'm not a desiel man, so gaser is the only route for me. The Dodge Ram 6.4L Hemie to me has the power train on the market for towing. I wanted the best Eagle HT for weight purposes and floor configuration, plus I was pulling my ski trailer. Most States are at 65' total length for pulling two trailers in tamdin. The Dodge Ram we are getting is the 2500 Crewcab with a 6.4L engine and the 6'4" bed. I'm upgrading my 5er hitch from a Pullrite 12K slider to a Pullrite 16K slider. Our new 5er with my ski trailer hooked on will leave me with plenty of room weight wise on the new hitch, plus going to a HD 3/4 ton pick is also good. My total lenght will be just under 65' and the weight of both trailers will be handled by the correct size of pickup. To me it's all about weight vs fuel mileage. That's why I like the Eagle HT's over the Eagles. There are so many models to chose from for so many different people's needs and wants. I hope this helps some decide what you want. U-tube is a great place to get your questions answered.
Thanks for reading.

I agree the HT's are lighter, but, no way would I consider towing many of them with a 1/2T. Maybe the smallest ones.

Mine is almost too much pin weight for my 3/4T truck.

We really like out Eagle HT, as first timers we didn't want anything larger. We also pull it with a 3/4 ton gas, but a chevy vs the dodge. No I can't set the cruise and top the hills at 80 but I've not had an issue with the gasser. I'm sure your dodge will serve you very well, we looked at a couple and they are very nice trucks.

I have the shortest of the Eagles,2017 291RSTS, TV 2017 Chevy 2500 Duramax. I am right at my maximum pin weight( with no fresh water which is behind the axles). Well under maximum gross towing weight. My bed only drops about 2", seems like it does that when I get in the truck myself, lol.
I don't see how anyone keeps under some of the weight maximums on their trucks. I have 4 friends with campers on 3500's, they are all over max rear axle weights.
Good news, I can tow like I don't have a thing behind me even on the steepest passes in the northwest.
Sometimes I think the numbers may set to avoid lawsuits.

I have the 2016 Eagle HT 27.5 RLTS which is 31 feet from cap to rear bumper and an unloaded weight of just under 8000 lbs. The gross rating is right at 10,000 and I'm sure I'm at every bit of that plus some! I pull it with a 3/4 ton Ford diesel and average 14 miles to the gallon when towing and that is one really good reason that I really like the HT. And going through the mountains is a breeze with the diesel and the HT. I've been in a number of regular Eagles and can't tell the difference in build quality between them and the HT. I've pulled mine over 11,000 miles in just under two years with no construction, build or mechanical issues so far - knock-on-wood! I have to say that with 3 slides, the HT provide plenty of roomy comfort for my wife and me, is easy to pull and park, and we get great gas mileage.
