AC heat strip usage

I have the Airxcel/Coleman Mach roof AC. The documentation says "48000 SERIES" so I assume it's the 13.5K BTU one. Mine is operated by a thermostat on the wall.

According to the Airxcel site and documentation, I'm supposed to have a heat strip capability in my unit. However, via the thermostat, "heat" always means the furnace turns on. Is there a way to use only the heat strip in the ceiling unit instead?

Thanks

DT

It will require a new internal control box, the heat strip and a new dual heat thermostat. You may also have to run another wire from the thermostat to the a/c depending on what pair wire JAYCO used.

Yep, it always depends on which "package" is used for a/c.

The Mach 8 heat pump that JAYCO uses supports the heat strip too, but JAYCO doesn't include it for reasons unknown.

And the heat strip only runs when on shore power or genny right? I'd be better just getting a little ceramic heater at Wal mart for $30.

Yep and if you're handy with elec you can add an outlet that uses the a/c breaker to help spread out the electric load.
