Follow on to the Eu7000i - running generator in truck bed

Hi all,

Again, thanks in advance. For those of you who have run a generator in your truck bed, did you have any unanticipated issues that came up? Like vibration or extra noise? Anything else? I know there's the obvious issue of the generator being in the truck bed if you have to take the truck somewhere away from the TT.

I'm not planning to build any special platform or box. Just plan to position the EU7000i, strap it and lock it.

Did you also get an extension chord for your TT electric chord?

I think I'm leaning toward just loading it before the trip and running it in the truck. From what I've read it's a fairly common practice.

Thanks !

As I stated in another post i use a 1 ton shop crane that has folding legs and stores neatly in my garage. When I need the gen, I back my truck into my garage and load the gen. I use a couple of ratchetting straps to secure it at the front of my truck bed. (I have a 2015 Ram Laramie Cummins 4x4 and all the options available). I have my RV wired to plug in to the gen on truck when travelling. I run the Honda eu7000is on eco mode and no vibration or noise when travelling. I have to go out of my truck to know if its running. This gives me the option of cooling my RV when stopping for lunch and running my fridge on 110 as I will not use propane on the highway. When I disconnect the truck and RV at campsite i have an extension cord to reach the truck. The only thing that isn`t running on the rv when I disconnect to go somewhere is the ac. All other necessities (fridge or hot water) run on propane at that time. Once I`m back, I plug in and ac cools rv quicky and all other appliances back on 110
And once I`m back home I remove the gen with the crane and fold crane legs and tuck crane and gen away until the next time.
Hope this helps

We used to run ours in the truck bed and never had an issue. I think that was my 6500. Now we have a 4K champion mounted on a rack on the rear. We run it from departure till arrival since it serves 2 purposes. One being the AC to keep the rv cold, the other being the residential fridge. I haven't had the money to finish the inverter project, and being I want the AC on anyway, it's a win win set up.

Hi Dangerdave,

I typically run my generator in the bed of the truck. Many times we're out in the desert and I have the luxury of space so I can nose the truck to the side of the trailer so it all looks like a "T". This way I can pull the power cord from the trailer and it reaches the generator without an extension. This setup is nice in that the cab of the truck is now blocking sound from the generator as well as its exhaust.

The only thing that I had to deal with on a couple of trips was some rain. I had a tarp that I covered the bed with but left plenty of space for the top of the generator and also had the generator close to the open tailgate where lots of ventilation was available for the exhaust.

I won't bite on the political reference or bring up religion either!!

Happy trails,

Jeff
