Indy 500

Anyone hauling their TT to IMS for the Indy 500 this year? We are leaving Thursday and camping until Monday. Always a great time, and a crazy scene.

Awesome! Wish we could - we'll settle for an at home tailgate time this year.

This trip is totally on our bucket list. What is the "scene" or experience like? Where can you set up camp? Are there nice parks near the speedway? Where will you guys stay? Would love to hear about your experience.

Yep. Back in the day we used to watch the race from the snake-pit, now THAT'S a crazy scene, or was. RV's used to park in a designated place in the infield as I remember. Of course back then, I was mildly intoxicated so I can't be sure. I've been to 20 Indy 500's and it has always been a great time, sober or not.

Lot of crazy things used to happen in the snake pit! Don't remember all, but I remember some. Lived there for 20 yrs, and went to the races the lady 10 yrs I lived there. Wonderful times.

Good luck finding a campground. They are expecting another stellar year of attendance. The speedway seats approximately 250,000 and they seem to find a place to stay for the night. Between hotels, bed & brkfst, campgrounds, etc. the greater Indy area is generally packed. I'd try searching close and expand out from there. I think you'll probably have to end up around Lafayette, Kokomo, Columbus, Bloomington, etc. and plan extra time driving in and out.

OOPS! Ignore my post. I didn't see your home location. I figure now you're talking infield camping. Never done it, but heard from others who have. You'll have a great time!

I have my camper in a yard right next to the track. But, then again, it’s always there because I live there. Greatest spectacle in crowds.
