X17z 13,500 or 15,000 btu ac
Hi
We are looking at purchasing a new x17z hybrid and we are not sure on the ac unit. We live in Albuquerque and it can be quite hot here and around where we will be camping and if 13,500 will do the trick we will stick with That but if we really need a 15,000 btu then we will go for that. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to JOF.
Decisions, decisions! Hopefully you'll hear from someone with a unit like yours that can help.

How many people will occupy the unit and do you plan on cooking inside. Will you be buying Pop Up Gizmo's ?

There are 2 adults and 2 kids. We will do some cooking inside but mostly outdoors...we are concerned with the canvas bunkends not retaining the cool air. Not planning on using gizmos.

I own a Jay feather ultra 197. I have a 15k and I believe it's kinda big for mine, a 13.5k would have been fine. "The 15k is load".
I'm in Tx weather.

We had an '03 Kiwi 17a, the ancestor to the X17Z. It had a 13k BTU unit. We spent a couple of nights in Vegas one year. 100 degree heat during the day. The unit had no trouble keeping the trailer cool although it ran almost constantly. The beds were a bit warm during the day but far cooler than outside. At night they were fine. We do not use the pop-up gizmos.

13,500 btu should be more than enough.

I would go with with either. I think 13,500 would be fine. That is what I have in a 28' camper. We camp in the summer, usually doesn't get over 105 degrees in our area. In full sun and 100 degrees, the a/c is running most of the time to keep about 70 degrees inside.
I would think with your smaller camper, and potentially hotter outside temps, I would think the smaller a/c would be comfortable. I wouldn't miss out on a good deal of the a/c difference.
On the other hand, your spending thousands on a camper. For an extra $150 if you can eliminate the potential to be uncomfortable, I would get the bigger a/c.
Personal preference, I think. Good luck

What he said. I live in NM and have two 15K units in my 5W, one will keep it comfy. If your ordering I'd get the 15, if it's on the lot with a 13.5 I would not discount it. Maybe a hybrid owner will have more on what the heat does in a that type unit.

Mod note: this thread title was in 3 different locations. It is now combined into one.

Welcome to JOF. Sounds like either one will do the job. It will likely run most of the time when it's hot out without the Gizmos and they may not help to much.

Our fist TT was about 18' and the 13.5 did the job, but it was working when camping in 100 plus temps. For the few extra bucks I'd go with the larger unit.

I am in a similar position. Small upgrade cost from 13.5k to 15k but what would the upgrade mean is regards to the generator requirements?
Plugged in to shore power the bigger AC is an easy decision. Running the bigger AC off the generator is the question. It seems like 13.5k BTU is the high end of a lot of generators. I'm looking at the Champion 3100 and most reviews say it will push a 15k AC unit but may struggle at higher elevation.

We have its big brother the 23b, with a 13.5K ac. On issues with it keeping it cool. We have been out in 194 degrees, within an hour of setting up, it cool and very comfort.

Not to smart of a smartphone, must have been auto corrected, because I'm never wrong.
104 just felt like 194 in the sun.
