Gas Alarm in J-Series 1007

All of a sudden our gas alarm started sounding while closed up, parked and not being used for a few months.

I removed the propane tank to use for a turkey fryer for thanksgiving... could that have anything to do with it? I disconnected the battery so it wouldn't die.

Any thoughts as to why the alarm randomly went off?

Was the battery connected prior to the alarm going off??
If it was, the alarm could have went off because the battery was below voltage needed to run the alarm.

Ether low battery or odor. Almost anything that emits a smell will set them off. Usually at 3 AM.

The gas alarm won't work without a battery connected.

This has happened to me a couple times, when the battery gets low the alarm goes off. I either disconnect the battery if I'm going camping again soon, or bring it into the garage for the battery tender if it's going to be a few weeks before the next trip.

How old is the gas detector? They have an "expiration" date after which they will start going off, infrequently at first and then more frequently the longer it goes without replacing. Date should be printed on the the face plate of the detector. I ordered a replacement from Amazon using the model #.
