New Tow Vehicle

Decide to take the plunge and trade in a 2006 Silverado 1500. We have a whitehawk 28dsbh and it was a lot for the truck. Think I going with a 2010 Silverado 2500HD LTZ 6.0l gas 94,000mi. Should be night and day difference in towing feel. Any one else have a 2500hd gas chime in. Thanks

A gas rig will tow just fine, and yes, a 3/4 ton truck will be night/day difference in accelleration, transmission hunting, engine temp, and braking (over a 1/2 ton).

That said, I would be surprised if you get 10MPG towing. my '96 7.4L GMC got 7-8 towing.

I sold on '07 1500 and picked up a low mielage '01 2500HD. I wouln't say it was night and day difference but it was definately a step in the right direction. The 1500 with 3.42 gears had great take off acceleration towing the TT but not much power at the top end if I needed to pass. The 2500HD with 4:11 gears is noticeably slower at take off but has the power at the top end and comfortably tows at 60-65 mph without the constant transmission hunting and revving the engine high. The 2500HD is also way more stable...I was a two hand driver with the 1500 but the 2500 doesn't get pushed around by the TT and makes for a more enjoyable driver. Engine and transmission temps have been about the same for both trucks and I plan to upgade the trans cooler next spring.

When it comes to tow vehicles bigger is better.

I just picked up the 2015 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 with crew cab and 8 foot bed. Big truck! But stable as hell. I pull a 28 foot 6800 lb. unloaded trailer and it's a one hand on the wheel and another holding my coffee kind of tow.

I pulled the trigger on the 2010 2500hd 6.0l crew cab short bed ltz with96k miles. Only saw a video and some pictures. Dealer is shipping next week. Well see how this works out. Never bought a vehicle with out a test drive. Hopefully it will trouble free for the next 100k miles.

x2.
My 2500 is very stable at 65mph. 1 hand driving w/cruise (if conditions permit), vs. 8 white knuckles w/my 1500 back in the day.

How is the new truck?

I pull our 2015 32BHDS (8252# yellow sticker) with a 6.0L gas, I slow down to about 50 on the larger grades here in southern California but other then that, I have no problems with my Gasser!

My 2014 Sierra HD, 4x4, CC, 6.0 does everything you'd want it to except, pass the gas station. Rides, stops, looks etc. good. Tow mirrors, integrated brake control, camera do what they're designed for
