I have not yet camped there, but a new member from Arkansas just posted in the new members forum. Maybe he will post up some spots for you.
I have only driven through the state park on lake quacita and it was nice!!

Hey chuck, welcome to the Forum. I moved to NW Arkansas less than two years ago so am just now learning about places to camp. However, I have good friends living in St.Louis who come down and camp at Mt. Magazine every year. They say its fantastic! Are you a fly fisher? If you've been around Mountain Home, I'm figuring you might be

I love Arkansas state parks. The state puts alot of money in the parks and it shows. We camp at Lake Degray State Park and it is beautiful. I live in Texas and I have stopped camping in Texas, due to our great State Governor cutting the parks budget. Texas parks have really taken a beaten the last 5 years. I also love Lake Quachita State Park. You have to make your reservation way in advance! We are going to Crater of the Diamond State Park for spring break. We are going to dig for diamonds, my kids love to that. I have nothing but praise for Arkansas State Parks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lake Catherine SP was wonderful. We stayed there last June and were really impressed. The lake is also quite beautiful. I would expect any of the parks in that part of the state (near Hot Springs) to be on a par with it. Full hook-up is also a nice plus.

I started fly fishing a couple of years ago Troutslayer. We are planning on camping at Bull Shoals State Park for Spring Break and I am planning on fishing every day of it. I will take a look at Mt. Magazine.

Another good place to stay for fishing is Denton Ferry RV Park just outside of Cotter, AR. They have FHU sites right on the White River with walk-in access.

I love Ark state parks too! They are the best kept up in my opinion of any state near me. I have been to Lake Catherine, Petit Jean, and Village Creek. They were all very good and different. We are about to go back to Pinnacle Mountain State park which is awesome, but no camping....however; there is a great COE park a few miles down the road called Maumelle Park and it is right on the Arkansas River and just minutes from downtown Little Rock. Enjoy!

There are many great places to camp in Arkansas, each offering alot in the way of scenery and activities. Some of my favorites are:
1. Petit Jean State Park-nice camping, lake for fishing, and a terrific hiking trail system. The views from the mountains are amazing.
2. Crater of Diamonds State Park- nice camping area with clean facilities. LARGE open area for scouring for diamonds in the rough, and a water park that opens in late spring.
3. John F. Kennedy campground- (my favorite) located on Little Red River south of Greers Ferry Dam. Some of the best trout fishing you will find anywhere.

I have camped at a lot of our state parks, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to any of them. The fam and I are headed to Peit Jean with some friends in a couple of weeks. It'll be the maiden voyage of our recently purchased 2005 Jayco Select popup.
