Camping in North Ga

Hello All!

We could use some help. We are fairly new to the 5ver world, have a 377RLBH . We need some help finding great places to camp in North Georgia. We need to be close to water, lake or stream. What are some of your favorites? Doesn't have to be full hookup. But we do like some privacy. Thanks for your time and happy camping.

Ga. Mountain Fairgrounds, Hiawassee. GA. Great views of Lake Chatuge and mountains. They have concerts in air condition concert hall mostly country and bluegrass but hard to get site on those weekends unless you plan ahead. All sites are paved and most have full hookups w/50a service. Wife and I have been camping their for 15yrs 3 or 4 times a year for concerts.

Vogel, Unicom, and Cloudland Canyon are all nice state parks.

Not sure if it is North enough for you, but Stone Mountain GA is a very nice campground. There a sites along the lake. We've stayed in Trail M, sites in the 330s. Most of them have an unobstructed view of the mountain. We stayed there in the off season and it was quiet. I imagine in the summer it gets crowded.

Vogel and Cloudland Canyon have no sewer but they do have grey dumps locations all over the campground. Most Georgia sp's we have stayed in, especially the older ones have 2-30a plugs and a 15a in the pedestal and no sewer. The newer ones are being put in with 50a in most instances. Some sites have sewer in the same cg, others don't.

The 2-30a amp plugs can be used if you have a 50a rig and the proper adapter.

Hi! We like to camp on the water (will often bring our boat and camper) during the summer and spend a lot of time at Watsadler Campground on Lake Hartwell Lake which is an Arm Corp Campground. Big spots with water and electricity. You can reserve a spot up to 6 months in advance (our favorites are on the 48-51 loop). Other great campgrounds on Hartwell are Paynes Creek and Twin Lakes (which is in SC but just right over the border). All three have nice facilities - including playgrounds which is great for the kids. Paynes Creek and Twin Lakes have beaches too. Closer to home, we camp a lot at Bolding Mill and Duckett Mill on Lake Lanier. If you don't care about being on the water - Georgia's State Park Campgrounds are nice - big spots with electricity and water (it is rare to find full hook ups in GA unless you are going to a private campground). The downside to GA State Park camping is you cannot reserve a spot specific (although it appears they may be changing that gradually as there are a few that allow spot specific reservations including Vogel which is a nice campground). Cloudland Canyon is beautiful if you want to do some scenic walks/hikes.
