Lake Louise and Banff Canada, Glacier National Pk

Planning a trip from California to Banff Canada and then Glacier National Park (U.S). Anyone have recommendations for RV parks? Pulling a travel trailer. Prefer full hook-up if available, if not, at least electricity and a dump station. Thanks!

+1 for Vicr
you better hurry and book though time is wasting...
west Glacier KOA.. is nicer than the East Glacier one.. make sure you call in and get a reserved spot.. One charged me extra $10 for that the other didn't but we ended up with a awesome spot...

Mount Kidd Rv Park isn't exactly close to Banff. It is about an hour drive. If you want to stay in the "City" center you should try and book at Tunnel Mountain Campground.

Two Jack is another option but not serviced.

Cheers

St Mary's KOA on the east side if you want to do any of the east side hikes. Many Glacier has some really great trails as does the Two Medicine entry point south of St Mary's. East has equally easy access to Highline from the Logan Pass parking lot. Not much for city stuff on the east side so if you want that type of thing - West is best.

True but Mt. Kidd is one of the nicest RV parks anywhere. We stayed there a week and did day trips into Banff. The Albertions all drive 80 mph so it's a quick drive up there.

Family did Lake Louise, Banff, and Kananaskis last year Aug 2018.
Note this is bear / grizzly country and hard sided trailers are required in most areas.
Reservation site is already open.

Full services are available Banff Tunnel Mountain - Trailer Court sections A, B, or C.

It’s not evident on the reservation page but in some sites your neighbour is very close. Recommend google satellite view.

Lake Louise. Two main trailer sites, Hard-Sided and Soft-Sided. The hard sided trailers are allowed in the soft area. Electrical only at hard sided sites. When selecting, stay away from the tracks. This is CP’s main rail line, with lots of rail traffic, and they blow the whistle night and day. Hit my head a few times being startled awake in the middle of the night.

During the summer, expect mountain road closures to key tourist locations such as Lake Louise 7am / Lake Moraine 5am. There is not enough parking spaces for everyone except for early risers. But bus service is available during the day. Free for Lake Louise but a fee $ for Lake Moraine.

We were up before the sun with 3 kids. What was I thinking. Note that as the day progresses, the density of people increases at these two sites heavily and quickly

For hookups you have very limited choices in Banff/Lake Louise. Tunnel Mountain in Banff or the Lake Louise Trailer court... both are run by Parks Canada and a reservation is pretty much required. Take lots of $$$$$

There are lots of other great CG's in Banff, LL, Yoho but they are all primitive

Get to whatever you want to see by 10 am.. We have been to Banff about half a dozen times and find it increasingly crowded. Lake Louise and Moraine Lake impossible after 10.
We camped in 2017 in Jasper at Snaring Overflow.. Sounds awful but a gorgeous 360 view. Has composting toilets and water. Generators allowed. We had not made reservations a forehand which is why we wound up in the field.

It was close to the Tramway and about 30 minutes to Maligne Lake ( gorgeous) and just a few minutes to the town of Jasper which remains unhurried. However it is a good three hours to Lake Louise.

IMO Jasper is even better than Banff.

Banff RVing

Tunnel Mountain Campground was outstanding. Run by Parks Canada. Got the annual Senior Pass for both of us ahead of time. All pull throughs, free bus to Banff city (10-15 min ride) and $2 Canadian ($1 for seniors) for the return ride back to the campground. Took that bus into town, short walk to train station for another bus to Lake Louise. That was a bucket list event and definitely worth it. Need to reserve campground spaces now. Stayed at Bow Rivers Edge in Cochrane two nights before the Tunnel Mountain Reservation. A short 80 miles away.
