Seeking Florida Panhandle Advice

Were at St Josephs Island west of Apalachicola . Many state parks are already full but we were able to get in there. Its not convenient to anything which is why we like it. Apalchicola is cool enough to not be overcrowded.

We like to eat locally verses cooking when we are camping. At Fort Pickens SP, is there places to eat close enough to ride a bike or do we need to bring the toad? Going over the bridge I would believe is not advisable on a bike. On Google maps I see Peg Leg Pete's about 7 miles away which is doable unless it is a road too busy or narrow for bike traffic. Is there anything else closer?

Short answer is NO! Several miles back to the condo strip. Double that to cross the bridge to Gulf Breeze. Unless you are crazy bikers, its a road trip to an eatery.

Red Fish Blue Fish was good also as well as Peg Legs. Shrimp Baskets a chain and probably get the same thing in Northern Alabama as Pensacola
Beach. There are two seafood market's back on the mainland if you want to do any cooking at the campsite.

Thanks for the replies. Turns out Fort Pickens is closed to repair damage from the hurricane(s). I was planning a trip for next month but I added it on my list of places to go.

Many of the beaches in this area have been voted "Best Beach in America" at different times. ANY spot close enough to drive to the beach would be good, just have to do your homework. That said, March is prime Spring Break time, lots of good clean kids mixed in with the hooligans. Temps range in the extremes here this time of year. 80° is unusual and so is 20° while both are possible. On the average we're way milder than north of here. Good Luck!

If you have a military ID or work DOD, you might try the FamCamp at Pensacola Navy Air Station. The campground on main base should start having openings in March and the one at Blue Angles Rec Area would have. Unless the storms damaged them.
