Traverse City

Any thoughts on campgrounds in the Traverse City, MI area. We are planning a trip for July, clean and reasonable is our goal.

Hey hotrod51!! We have never camped near Traverse City as we are new to RVing, but we've been to Traverse City 100 times or so. Lots to see and do in the area. We have, however, driven through the Traverse City SP and Interlochen SP just to check them out. Between the 2, it will be Interlochen for sure whenever it is we decide to go up there again. About an hour or so east of Traverse City is Hartwick Pines SP in Grayling. We absolutely loved this CG. Just south of Grayling are North and South Higgins Lake SP (2 separate CG's). To the SW of Traverse City SP is Ludington SP which is awesome, but unfortunately it books for the entire season early, so you have to make reservations ASAP. Traverse City SP is very close to the main highway going through town which is why we have avoided that CG thus far. My guess--and it's just a guess--is that if you get a campsite as far away from the road as is available it would be fine, but like I said earlier, we will go to Interlochen SP first. You said you were planning a trip for July, so I would guess you'll be in town for the Cherry Festival. Make reservations early, as it will be full during that time. After the festival, reservations are much easier to get. Hope this helps out, and, as always, Happy Camping!!

Traverse City is one of the few parks in the Michigan system that has a no-dogs area. Sites are real close and very little grass. We stay at North Higgins or Platte River FF when in the area.
